Hi Bradley, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Hi there, my name is Bradley Barks. I’m 35, a husband, and a business owner from here in Phoenix, Arizona. I started out doing many entrepreneurial endeavors when I was young, always gravitating towards online marketing.
I built websites, animated Adobe Flash animations, created travel videos, did SEO marketing for other businesses, and many other side hustles that led me to be interested in e-commerce. I had done a lot of marketing and attracting visitors and sales for other businesses, so it seemed like the perfect next step.
To be marketing for myself and my own company.
With my mom being a preschool teacher and PTO president for many years, I was pretty familiar with the needs of classrooms and teachers and how bigger companies don’t do a great job providing support and designing products for classroom use for all ages. One of the biggest opportunities I saw was thoughtfully designing headphones for the classroom. This is how Barks Tech Classroom Headphones was born. We strive to offer premium quality headphones designed specifically for the classroom at an affordable bulk price, making it easy to put together classroom or whole grade level sets.
Our two best-selling headphones are our Select model and our Microphone model. The Select models are headphones only, sound great, and are strengthened in every way possible to withstand the wear and tear of all ages in the classroom. The same goes for our Microphone model, but it includes a boom-style microphone for PCs, laptops and tablets.
These are great for state testing or lessons that require student interaction. We excel at providing excellent support to our customers, which is why many schools choose us every year for their classroom headphones needs. We offer a limited lifetime warranty that covers parts and any on-arrival issues, ensuring all of our customers are set up for success in their classrooms.
We’re now focused on working with more schools directly and becoming their go-to vendor for affordable bulk headphones that are excellent for grades K through 12. We’ll expand our product line and continue offering the industry’s best level of support. Our next product will likely be a type-C USB connection headphone since iPads have switched to this type of connector. We’d love to hear from any readers who have other suggestions for additional product ideas!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There were many struggles on the entrepreneurial journey side of things. It took following along with mentors, learning many new skills, and launching a few products that didn’t go according to plan.
Thankfully, we’ve made enough of the right choices and continue to grow. I’d say one of the biggest challenges has been learning about money, cash flow, sourcing, and inventory management and realizing that it didn’t matter that I don’t have a college degree.
These days, if you have the drive and desire, you can learn anything for yourself online and take action (and risk) to launch a business that serves a large number of customers.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Barks Tech Headphones, we’re known for offering premium classroom headphones specifically designed for K-12 classrooms. We also offer what I would consider to be the best customer support within our industry. We make sure all customers are happy with their classroom sets and are well cared for during their use. We’ve worked hard to design and make improvements to our headphones to allow them to be used for as long as possible.
They also fit nearly any budget. I started the business in 2019 and have worked really hard to continue to grow it since then. We’ll be launching new headphone models soon. Life is tough, but a clear vision of what you want to achieve with your business, mixed with the desire to help others, can go a very long way. The road will be bumpy and filled with many new things to learn and take action on.
