Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Love.
Hi Lisa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Since my last interview with VoyagePhoenix on January 18, 2023, I have been taking a deep dive into the world of Ceramics.
The calling came in the middle of the night. I saw a vision of myself in a pottery studio. There was camaraderie among the collective. They were working together for a common purpose. I saw myself carrying beautiful pottery that I had thrown on the wheel, ready to be sold. I felt a sense of pride as I woke from my slumber.
I immediately signed up for a wheel-throwing class. I took heed to double down on my pottery courses. I eagerly dove into learning new skills, volunteering to load and unload the kilns, mixing glaze recipes, and helping others.
It’s been a year; I am now a member of the Tucson Clay Art Center. I look forward to spending more time in the studio honing my skills. I have many new ideas to explore, and I am excited to see where they take me.
People have recently asked me why wheel-thrown pottery. The answer is quite simple, it comes easy for me. I believe one’s gift or calling can come easy. Why make it hard?
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In the new chapter I have begun, it has been a smooth road thus far. I have let go of preconceived outcomes so that I can be fully in the moment and open to new opportunities.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an artist that designs works of art for the modern home. I specialize in ceramics, abstract paintings, and sculptural pieces.
My professional business experience sets me apart as an artist. I spent years in the advertising industry and owned my own agency. I am comfortable speaking to large or small groups about my work.
With my ceramics, I create beautiful forms that stir the imagination. They come from a place deep within. Fluid moves create the form. The form offers function, if you choose to use it in that way. Elegance can be seen in the motion of the making, and it is felt by those who are gifted the form.
