Today we’d like to introduce you to Cambrea Gordon.
Hi Cambrea, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I unofficially started my business in 2020 while I was working as a pastry chef! It originally started out as a fun hobby where I shared recipes on Instagram for my friends and family who were always asking me for ideas.
It continued as a hobby until June of 2021 when I finally decided to quit my job as a pastry chef and dive headfirst into my business. Now I work full-time as a food photographer and recipe developer for food and drink brands, and for my blog, Cambrea Bakes!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road!
The biggest obstacle I struggled with in the beginning was simply the transition of going from working a traditional job to suddenly being my own boss. Once I realized I was in charge of every single thing in my business I definitely freaked out a little bit! You think it would be easy to smoothly transition but I’ve worked a standard job since I was 15 and it was difficult to get used to.
I was suddenly in charge of emails, finding and pitching clients, managing finances, taxes, website designing, and so much more all at once. It was also tough being the only person involved. You really don’t realize how much you appreciate coworkers until you don’t have any. Having to cheer yourself on and support yourself can be hard to do especially when you don’t really know what you’re doing.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work as a food blogger for my website, Cambrea Bakes, where I share creative twists on classic baked good recipes. I also work as a commercial food photographer and recipe developer where I create content for food and beverage brands that tell their brand story and help them connect to their consumer audience.
I have worked with some amazing national brands like Domino Sugar, Bob’s Red Mill, and Bubbies Fine Foods creating elevated content for them that highlight their unique products. I am definitely most proud of my blog. It is constantly evolving and I am so proud to watch it grow and be able to reach thousands of people with my recipes.
I think what sets me apart from others is my creativity. I love thinking outside the box!
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Everyone in my family has been a huge supporter of me and my business since the beginning.
They constantly cheer me on in everything I do. Aside from family, there is the most amazing community of food bloggers and photographers that I have connected with through social media. Many of them have become some of my closest friends and have truly played a big role in my success.
Having a group of supportive women around me who favor community instead of competition has allowed me to gain more knowledge and advice than I could have ever gained on my own.
