Today we’d like to introduce you to Diamond Holts.
Hi Diamond , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in a beautiful place called Grand Rapids Michigan in the 2000s. This place had great opportunities when needed but I had bigger dreams and that’s when I moved to Arizona at the age of 14. When I was younger, I always wanted to create change and use my voice in the African American community because of what I saw and heard growing up as an African American woman. I grew up researching everything from juvenile delinquency to law enforcement, watching documentaries, and watching crime shows, so I can continue to learn and gain the knowledge that I need to achieve my goal.
After graduating high school, I enrolled at The University Of Arizona studying Psychology but after a full semester I decided that I wanted to be somewhere where I can get actual help, learn more, and be able to get more one-on-one, so I end up enrolling at Glendale Community College and changing my major to criminal justice because my goal became bigger. My goal became to be a voice and help African American males and females who have been charged with any crime and given a punishment that is harsh and unnecessary.
After seeing Black Lives Matter becoming bigger than ever and black lives becoming at risk daily, I decided I wanted to start using my voice for the greater good. After graduating in May of this year with my associate. I decided to start a podcast, my podcast just launched called unarmed and harmed which talks about all things African Africans. Which will not only spread knowledge but give an understanding of what we as African Americans go through. I Officially just transferred to gain my bachelor’s at The University Of Phoenix while still doing my podcast.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No Dream will have a smooth road and that’s why you fall and rise back up. Being In school and doing my podcast has good days and bad days that come with it and my bad days can outweigh my good sometimes, but I always remember that I have a purpose in life and my voice has a purpose and that always get me back on track. Especially for my podcast, I remind myself that I will make a change for the better.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m the host of the Unarmed & Harmed podcast that talks about all things African American. For example, some topics will be. African Americans in the justice system, African Americans wrongly convicted, and African American cases. I’m here to use my voice by helping you understand and giving knowledge that is not fabricated but strictly the truth and in my own words.
I’m most proud of my podcast because my podcast has launched on Apple, Spotify, Podcastindex, and Google now, but also I’m proud of myself. I’m proud of myself because I took risks and made decisions that can significantly make changes in others’ minds. To me we all are different and I’m different from others because I am real and open-minded when it comes to speaking my mind.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with me by contacting me on my socials to first get in contact.
