Volunteering at the Waste Management Phoenix Open

Phoenix Panhellenic volunteers annually donate their time to work at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in order to earn money to provide scholarships for Arizona undergraduate, graduate and continuing education collegiate women.  We raise critical money for scholarships for women. Every shift completed will earn a donation to Phoenix Panhellenic. Since 1975, Thunderbird Charities has generously donated over $900,000 to Phoenix Panhellenic Association for its volunteer support at the PGA TOUR’s most fan friendly golf tournament.

I am so excited to be heading into my fifth year of volunteering at the Waste Management Phoenix Open with the Phoenix Panhellenic Association. The reason this is my favorite way to give back to our Arizona community is that the volunteer opportunities are so much fun!  You get to work with a great group of people from all ages and so much money is raised for female scholarship opportunities.

My first and second year of volunteering I worked in the concession stands making tacos and margaritas for all the golf fans. It was so much fun interacting with fans from all over the world and hearing which golf players they came to see. Plus, I learned what a walking taco is…imagine all the taco fixings inside of a bag of Doritos – it’s amazing!

The past two years I have been a walking ambassador for the Waste Management Phoenix Open which means my duty is to take all of the volunteers to their work stations. It’s a lot of walking and you have to know the course like the back of your hand. It’s such an inspiration to hear from all the volunteers on what brought them out today and how many years they have been volunteering at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Some of the past scholarship recipients come and volunteers and it’s amazing to hear how much of an impact these dollars made for their education and career!

This year with the Covid-19 pandemic things will be a bit different, but I am still signed up to help out – even if it’s at a smaller scale. The money that is raised makes a huge impact on young women in our community and I’m so honored I get to be apart of making that happen!
