Rising Stars: Meet Unique Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Unique Smith.

Hi Unique, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My affinity for social media first began in high school.

At the time, I was unaware of the potential a meticulous online presence can have and how someone can truly benefit from it. Throughout high school, I merely used my accounts to simply keep in touch with friends and see what people were up to when I did not see them on school grounds. Knowing this, I crafted my image to depict aspects of myself that I wanted my friends to see.

As an underclassman in college, I saw that social media can be used for means other than to merely keep in touch with childhood friends. I quickly began to realize that social media is on a common grounds that I have with actors, athletes, musicians, singers, models, photographers, etc. and that there was nothing stopping me from forming an account similar to theirs and ultimately gaining a following of larger capacity.

I posted things that would eventually become my niches; outfits (fashion), vacation (travel), and miscellaneous photos (photography), among other things. Completely unaware of the brand I was forming, I started gaining followers, increasing in likes, and getting more comments!

After maintaining tedious upkeep across all platforms, brands and companies started to reach out to either collab, sponsor, or simply compliment my page! I was even fortunate enough to land a couple of employment opportunities in social media with some renowned organizations.

To this day I am happy to display myself online in a way that not only exemplifies who I am as a person but also in a way that inspires others and in a way that is profitable as well.

As of now, I continue to uphold my brand through these platforms and I am always looking to expand my social media knowledge and expertise.

Upon graduating from college recently, I am in the midst of looking for full-time employment opportunities in social media coordination/management, as I have found out that this is something that I truly love doing and can help others with!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building my brand and ultimately becoming the person I want to be have never been easy by any means.

Being a content creator is fun, most definitely, but it does require dedication and a necessary mindset. I struggled at first with having the “aesthetic eye” necessary to ALWAYS keep my feed unique (no pun intended). Even on TikTok, the ability to keep the ideas, scenarios, and skits coming requires a lot of brain power, at least for me it does.

Sometimes I get lazy, sometimes I get bored with it, and sometimes I get discouraged. In these times, I find it important that I persevere and remember that this is something that I do in fact, love doing; even if I do hit low points sometimes. I don’t need to be at it all the time, I don’t need to “feel like it” all the time.

However, I don’t let myself stay in that state of mind for too long; I let it happen, then I get back to it. As far as being the person and man that I want to be. I take it one day at a time. I realize that I’m not going to wake up one day and the switch will be flipped, no.

It happens a step at a time: in decisions, in conversations, in activities, in interests, in interactions, in mindsets, etc.

The gap between the life you’re living and the life you want to live is called the focus.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Social Media Expert with 5+ years of experience in social media growth, coordination, and management.

I’ve aided in the development of multiple social media platforms for various entities and have successfully increased overall post engagement, amount of followers, and brand awareness.

I have experience with most social media platforms and have developed both a skill and a hobby. Because of my natural affinity for maintaining my own personal brand across multiple platforms, social media management and coordination have become a personal skill set.

Because of my online presence and my meticulous upkeep as a content creator, I have been granted the luxury of being a rising social media (micro)influencer; thus resulting in beneficial, symbiotic relationships with renowned companies through collaborations, ambassadorships, partnerships, and sponsorships.”
