Rising Stars: Meet Sindica Monique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sindica Monique.

Hi Sindica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Thank you for taking the time out to hear my story. I’m Sindica Monique. Native of Grand Rapids, MI.

Recently, I relocated to Scottsdale, AZ in July 2021, and loving it! I discovered the love of hair around 14 years old. I started cutting my own hair and eventually got bold enough to start playing with color. I was very risky when it came to styles. I envisioned styles, then attempted to execute them. Honestly, some were terrible(lol) Yet, many were trendsetters. At least, I would like to believe they were. I experimented in High school on a few of my friends. I was self-taught. Yet, they trusted me to cut and style their hair. Many would call it a gift! They loved my styles.

I really started to tap into the Hair industry at 30 years of age. It was revealed to me that this was my lane. I hadn’t thought of myself as being a hairstylist as a professional career until a friend of mine suggested I go to cosmetology school.

I then did my due diligence and enrolled in cosmetology while living in Tampa, Fl, working as a full-time CNA and a single mother of 3 young children. Yet, nothing was going to stop me. I love being creative and giving women the confidence with a fresh cut or color. Becoming a professional stylist fills my cup.

Shortly after, I finished school. I relocated to Atlanta, GA. Landing a position as an assistant to the owner and stylist of Like the River the Salon.

That position helped me become the stylist I am today. I gained more confidence while soaking up techniques and learning to navigate the beauty industry. 6 months later I became a stylist at the salon and hit the ground running!

Later, I went independent and have been ever since. Entrepreneurship is life!

Atlanta was great to me, I needed Atlanta and the great stylist and mentors I worked with and networked with. It definitely made me push hard as a hairstylist and master my craft. I had the opportunity to meet and service a great, loving, supportive, affluent, and beautiful clientele base for 9 years. Many of them have become some of my closest friends.

I’m now 11 years in the beauty industry and always looking to take my skills to the next level. I wanted to bring my talent and knowledge of hair care to the West Coast! I love it here and I am looking forward to taking your haircare needs to the next level. Hey, girl!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Outside of a few challenges I faced while attending and trying to complete my hours in cosmetology school as a single mother, working full time, the road was as smooth as expected. I did exceptionally well in school however, I was stretched to the limit. Since being a full-time stylist, I will say, I’ve seen my days with the chiropractor (lol).

The hours are long and your body will go through wear and tear so it’s important to me to stay healthy and active.

These are definitely a couple of challenges however, it’s been well worth it!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a short haircut and color artist! Specializing in pixie cuts to be specific but not limited to other styles or cuts. I’m known for my precision cuts, color, and edgy hairstyles. I’m most proud of my ability to execute cuts and styles that I envision or styles that I’ve seen by other great hairstylist. I take pride in not only giving my clients the latest looks but making sure they have healthy hair, the best products, and educating them on hair maintenance and routines.

I’ve been able to set myself apart by focusing on retaining my clients by remaining consistent and professional.

What matters most to you? Why?
Retaining my clientele and healthy hair matters most! Healthy hair comes with maintenance. It’s important to get on a routine with your stylist to achieve and maintain healthy hair.

Products are definitely important.
