Rising Stars: Meet Pamela Karpelenia of Casa Grande, Arizona

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Karpelenia.

Hi Pamela, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in Brenham, Texas, where I first discovered my passion for the stage. I had my first role at the age of 5 and have been competing in Speech/Debate and Singing/Acting competitions since 12. In High School, I knew I wanted to make acting and performing a part of my future career. I then went to college in Kansas, where I was classically trained in operatic voice. After college, I was accepted to AMDA(American Musical and Dramatic Academy). Unfortunately, I couldn’t cover the remainder of tuition after scholarships. So I began performing in local and community theatres and singing gigs. During that time, I also received my professional license as an SLP-A (Speech and Language Pathology Assistant). I enjoy incorporating my theatre experience into my speech therapy sessions after over 20 years and nearly 180 productions and performances. In 2018, I wrote my first Murder Mystery! Soon after, with the loving support of my superhero husband, Keith Karpelenia, I founded The Murder Mystery Players of Casa Grande, my theatre troupe. I write, direct and produce all of the shows, and we perform throughout the year, including private and corporate events. We recently performed at Phoenix Fan Fusion which was truly a humbling experience with packed audiences at every performance. With the success of The Murder Mystery Players of Casa Grande, I have started to expand my writings and recently completed my first screenplay. It’s a faith-based drama based on my life and the struggles and triumphs in my life as a Christian. My faith keeps me going and has been foundational in my life, marriage, and business.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, while I tend to focus on the positives and blessings, it has not been easy. I didn’t grow up wealthy or anything and had to make my way. I, however, refused to let my humble beginnings define me. Inspirational people have been placed in my life, from teachers to lifelong friends and family. When I started my business, a few people tried and failed to hinder the growth and success of my endeavors.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I founded a Murder Mystery Theatre Company and am a practicing SLP-A. I’m also a voice instructor and provide private voice lessons. I specialize in acting, writing, directing, and operatic voice. What sets me apart is my willingness to understand the individual potential of my students/clients and help them achieve their best. I’m proud of my business; starting something from scratch is never easy, but with the support of my husband and committed friends like my assistant director Apollo Child. This is something that not only I can take pride in.

If we knew you were growing up, how would we have described you?
I love to talk about just about anything. Ironically enough, I grew up with a disfluency; I stuttered, making my desire for the stage a bit daunting. Despite my difficulty with cold readings, I’ve always been loud, full of energy, and easily excitable, which made auditions fun.
