Today we’d like to introduce you to Neo Leif.
Hi Neo, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In the beginning, I just loved rap music and the feeling and the attitude about it. With friends, I started to sing along to other rappers’ music. At first, I did not trust that I could deliver such a fantastic art. But one day, I just wanted to see what I am capable of, and it was amazing. It was real, and it was me, and the best of it, it touched others too. From then on, I never wanted to copy others again and only wanted to do what was coming from inside. As I firstly used instrumentals from existing songs, my family saw my talent and supported me with music software and a midi keyboard so that I could develop my instrumentals. Until graduating from High School, the main criticisms were about the sound quality of my songs. So, this was my weak spot. I didn’t want to learn just the surface of the subject if I was about to have education concerning music. I want to learn it from the absolute basics, and by this, I mean physics. Physics is part of basic studies. As I developed my music on a PC, I checked the electrical engineering courses, and voila, they had specialization courses in acoustics and signal processing.
For a long time, keeping my motivation up was the hardest task during my studies. The subjects I was interested in took just a small percentage. Getting a university degree was also a plan B to work on something related to music if I couldn’t make it as a musician, so I continued. At some point later in my studies, I even doubted finding a job that could arouse my interest at all. The leak of money and being tired of working several jobs besides studying made me take my chances and find a professional job. I worked for a trial in the R&D department of an engineering company in the magnetics field, BROCKHAUS MEASUREMENTS. This was much more fun than expected: developing sensors, making tests, soldering stuff, analyzing data on the PC, and research. I was so motivated to work full time that I finished my studies shortly. I worked there for a while, made good money, and became a good engineer. Oh yeah, I benefited a lot from this work. Still, something about it felt wrong. I was not feeling to contribute the best me to the world, and I had no time to develop my music anymore. I was feeling not being myself anymore. When I was young, I never thought I could be an engineer. My strengths lie in creativity and communication. Technical understanding is just something that I have learned.
So what would my future look like? What can I create if I work in something where my true talents are?
I quit my job two years ago. I changed my life completely. And the first thing I had to do was get rid of many bad habits and thoughts. Habits and ideas that might have protected me in the past would stand in the way of the new part of my life. I needed to figure out what exactly I wanted to do and how I wanted to do it, and I had to find myself and understand myself. Now I live in Leipzig, knowing what I want and what’s important to me very well. Freedom is my top value. And while a lot of crazy things have happened in my life, and while I take a big risk, I see a lot of people that are not listening to their hearts because of a bunch of things that are not real: fears, thoughts, limitations. To me, the most dangerous thing is not living my life. And that’s why I want to share my adventures with you, get new perspectives, see chances and wonders, and encourage you to go on adventures yourself. Then you will feel it: life!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggles were and are inside my head! In the beginning, I could not ask others for favors or learn from others. I was too proud or thought I had to build up everything only myself to deserve it. Being proud is a good thing if it makes you or others feel good, but it should never stand in the way of anything. And the world deserves you to shine! So do whatever you can to live a healthy and happy life because you have so much to give, and the whole world will benefit from this.
For a long time, I forgot or mistaken myself for why I was studying. I claimed to others that I had chosen a path of security due to the fear of failure. I thought others made me do it like it was not my decision. I got caught up in all these bad thoughts and focused on them. The truth is, such thoughts might come when you are feeling down, but they are not true. Those are just thoughts. In the beginning, I had good reasons to start my studies. It was always my decision. I found a way to stay close to my family, study something that helps me improve my music, and grow a lot of new knowledge. I did it because I love challenges, and I was curious to see if I could become an engineer, and with a university degree, I would have a lot of job opportunities in the end. I could write about challenges, and they won’t stop. But this is a good thing because I always continue developing myself and my business. No challenges mean you are stuck where you are, and this is nothing I want for my life. Life is about experiences.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Music is communication. While many musicians want to entertain as many people as possible, my goal is to bring my fans the most intense entertainment possible. I strive to amaze and to create moments you will never forget. Many musicians seek to give their fans what they want, and I’m longing to give them more, something unexpected. My songs come from my inside, and they represent the feelings I have. They are true. A good song can share these feelings. But this is not where I stop. I give you a background, tell you a story that might be fantastic, scary, or dramatic, and create an atmosphere with all means I can find to make my songs set you in a very special mood, to make you have a new experience yourself. And it is my past that enabled me to create this. As a curious guy, I have been on many adventures and can let you approach my stories and music from different angles, and I made a lot of experiences myself that I can share with you. From being through tough times in my life, I know how to overcome them and give you hope and outlook. From being an engineer and studying, I know how to find solutions for any challenge, and I have the technical background to create any art and fine-tune it so that it resonates with the project’s intention. And my communication talent and my creativity make me able to perform in a way that delivers magic or very special music. I make music for adventurers, for people who want to experience something new, like to discover and love to be surprised.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
What helped me the most to advance was my knowledge about NLP. At first, my father began to study how the human brain works, and then he told my girlfriend and me about NLP. My girlfriend then read a book by Tony Robbins, a life coach who uses techniques based on NLP. In 2018 we went to a seminar in New York – Unleash the Power Within. While at first, everything was just theory, in his seminar, he gave us tools and made us experience the power of programming ourselves. From that time on, my mindset and how I see things changed a lot. The theory behind it is that due to your past experiences, mindset, values, and needs, you programmed yourself how you decide in each moment. By this, you might get stuck in some loops, or you’re unable to change something fundamentally. Many tools can help you reprogram yourself, think differently, and behave differently in a way that will bring you closer to your aims. According to this, I always look out for tools that suit me the most at the moment. Besides Tony Robbins, I follow Christian Bischoff and Laura Seiler, German coaches that communicate such tools in another way.
