Rising Stars: Meet Jeff Gulino

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Gulino.

Hi Jeff, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.

In 2008, I (Jeff Gulino) and Mikey Sarratt decided to partner up and create a tattoo shop with a southwestern cowboy theme. We had been friends for a few yrs and the time just seemed right to partner up and start something new and different.

Central Phoenix. In those days it was extremely hard to open a tattoo shop in Phx, it required a 6-month rezoning process, city council meetings, and lawyers. We stuck with it and saw the process thru and we opened for business.

In the beginning, it was just the two of us. We tattooed our clients and built up a small walk-in base. Both of us had been tattooing for a while, Mikey focused on a very American traditional style of tattooing, and I focus mainly on large-scale Japanese and illustrative tattoos.

Eventually, things got busier and busier and we added a walk-in artist. Fast forward to 2022 and we now have 12 full-time artists all with different styles of tattooing but with strong roots in American traditional tattooing.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?

It has not been smooth at all, hahaha.

We have had major personalities come thru over the years and with that came all the challenges of managing artists. We have seen good and bad economies, complete crew replacements, and just recently as everyone knows a pandemic.

But with a clear vision of what we believe a tattoo shop should be, a clean environment, a fun environment, good artist, and top-notch customer service. We have moved forward getting stronger and better with every challenge.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

Tattoo artists are:

Proud to carry on the tradition of tattooing thru the ethics and traditions passed down from generational tattooers
Specializing in American traditional tattoos and Japanese tattoos
We are set apart from others because we maintain the rebel aspect of tattoos while giving a clean , fun experience and giving our customers a premium product.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Going to Disneyland as a child and riding the haunted mansion.
