Rising Stars: Meet Janna Kim

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janna Kim.

Hi Janna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up I learned at an early age that if you want something in life, you have to be strong enough to reach it since it’s easier said than done. I grew up in a family where empowering yourself was essential and remaining strong throughout your personal hardships and impediments will make you a better you. My dad and older sisters were prominent figures/guides and always told me that sometimes comfortability equals complacency in life so I try to keep myself at a consistent pace to reach whatever it is I desire in life. I truly believe if you really want something in life, then it’s already yours.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life hasn’t been the smoothest nor do I go about it all the time with ease. With the fast pace of life, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and anxious about the imminent future, however, I still to this day try to remember that it’s human nature to fear the inevitable when the journey itself is what holds the unknown, but the destination at the end is what makes everything worth it. I try to recite to myself mantras/affirmations to motivate me past my fears and emotional lows by remembering to not let life happen to me, but to let me happen to life. At the end of the day, every single person faces hardships and experiences, good and bad; I always remind myself/others that life is similar to receiving a hand of cards, some bad, some good, but it all depends on how you play them.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I just recently graduated this spring from Arizona State University studying my full four years here studying Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Global Health and my schooling continues as this fall I start my Master’s program in Biology! I have always been studious and interested in the medical field as my aspiration in life is to care/help others in a way where they can’t necessarily help themselves. I was always fascinated knowing about modern medicine and how far humans have come to master ourselves/body and how there is so much more to learn. I began to dabble within this field by beginning full-time work as a medical imaging assistant where I get to assist in performing thyroid biopsies along with helping out the nuclear medicine department and now moving onto being a dermatology tech. This experience of being a full-time student and worker has been a great adjustment which some days are harder than others, but everyone starts somewhere in life and this is only the beginning for me.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something a lot of people don’t know about me at first is that I am very interested in astrology! I am able to understand a person and their qualities based on their entire zodiac chart such as one’s rising sign and how it reflects on how they interact with others or what house their sun falls in and how it shows in their core beliefs.

There’s so much more than just someone’s sun sign (basically the season they were born in) and when I dive into someone’s chart, they’re usually surprised about how much I already know about them just by knowing their birth time/location.
