Meet Wendy Bader of Bader Nutrition in Gilbert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Bader.

Wendy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Life was great. I had a wonderful job at a non-profit organization. Then, in 2008, when the economy tanked, my team and I were laid off a week before Christmas. So, like so many others, I reinvented myself and went back to college. I already had a business degree, but I decided to follow a life-long interest in nutrition/health and earned a bachelor’s degree, then a master’s degree, in Nutrition Science at Arizona State University.

While I was getting my master’s degree, a family member was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. So, I dove deep into brain health research (and still do), and learned how not only nutrition, but how our entire lifestyle impacts our physical, mental and cognitive health. Plus, I have always been fascinated with the brain (in a nerdy kind of way), but that’s another story!

So, I took all that powerful knowledge and experience and created Brain Power Breakthrough seminars and workshops. I decided to make my living giving 1-hour seminars and half-day workshops to groups, organizations, and businesses because I want to get the word out to as many people as possible that taking care of your brain and your health at any age is key to a healthy, happy life.

Today, besides having my own business as a brain health expert, I am on the speaker’s bureau of the Alzheimer’s Association’s Phoenix chapter and have been a faculty associate at Arizona State University.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As a solopreneur, you’re not only the face and voice of your business, but you have to really broaden your skillset (website creation, digital marketing, social media, videos, sales, customer acquisition and retention, managing financials, etc.) until you can afford to hire people to help you. Even then, it’s like having two full-time jobs because things are constantly changing!

Another challenge that I love to overcome: When people hear that I am a nutritionist, they think that I’m going to tell them what they can and cannot eat! I wish it were that simple, but brain health and our overall health is much more complex than that. So, my clients are thrilled that I believe in the whole-lifestyle approach because it’s the best way to optimal health. So, while I do discuss the ultimate foods for sharper thinking, I also teach some amazing strategies for sleep management, stress management, mood management and mental well-being (depression, anxiety, attitude, humor), and social well-being (relationships with others and yourself). I also show you the best physical activities for brain health that even exercise haters appreciate! Plus, a lot of brain health hacks and so much more!

Please tell us about Bader Nutrition.
I am a brain health expert and the creator of Brain Power Breakthrough seminars and workshops. My innovative workshops are designed specifically for businesses and organizations to inspire their employees, members and clients to optimize their brain’s power and performance to:

• Stay mentally and physically sharp.
• Strengthen their competitive edge and maximize performance.
• Improve sleep, mood, and stress management while decreasing burnout.
• Decrease the risk of Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias.
• But, most importantly, be vibrantly healthy and happy at work, at home — at life!

During my interactive seminars and workshops, I share many powerful lifestyle strategies and cool brain health hacks! I take the latest brain and health research and translate it into smart, actionable strategies for peak performance, health and well-being.

I enjoy working with all types of organizations, businesses and groups because having the knowledge and tools to develop a peak-performing brain will give them and their team the confidence and motivation to reach their brilliant potential, and have an extraordinary impact in their work, community, and relationships!

What am I the proudest of? I love seeing people’s faces light up when they have an “aha moment” during one of my talks. I also enjoy seeing audience members leave energized with a smile on their face because I also make my presentations fun!

I am also thrilled that more and more organizations are recognizing the value of optimal health and wellness for their employees, teams, and members. So my workshops have been used in wellness programs, professional development training, performance tools, client appreciation events, and general membership meetings.

What makes me unique? I also have a business degree and worked in the corporate and non-profit sectors for many years before becoming a nutritionist and brain health expert. During my corporate career, I vividly remember sitting in meetings and at my desk struggling with focus and concentration due to stress, poor diet, and the lack of sleep and exercise.

Today, as a brain health expert, I have merged all of my knowledge and experience into powerful solutions to help smart, successful people to optimize their health so they can be laser-focused, think quicker, and work even smarter.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have gotten out there a lot sooner and promoted myself a lot more.
