Meet Olivia Mcdowell of VikiiT in Wickenburg

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Mcdowell.

Olivia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My passion for the arts began when I was a little girl. Starting in kindergarten, I had always loved to bring my creative ideas to life, imagining my own film ideas as well as modeling for my own enjoyment in various types of outfits and pretending to run my own fashion shows. As the years went on, more specifically my freshman year in high school, my art style began to develop into something unique and my brand name, VikiiT, was born.

While attending high school in Wickenburg, Arizona, I was given the opportunity in my freshman and junior years to have my artwork be displayed at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum also located in Wickenburg. Apart from having my works displayed in the museum, I had also participated in Wickenburg’s annual art show, “Cowgirl Up”, to gain additional exposure and showcase my talent. My dreams of one day becoming a director of animated films had only grown stronger during these years. Displaying my art and participating in these events brought so much joy to children and young adults who passed by to see my work that it motivated me even more. During my sophomore year of high school, I was signed to a local modeling agency in Phoenix. The agency really kickstarted my professional modeling. I have done multiple fashion runway shows around the state of Arizona before I was even a high school graduate.

Once I graduated from high school, I was greatly interested in continuing my education in pursuit of my dream. I discovered the Graphic Design with an emphasis in Animation degree that Grand Canyon University offered. I quickly became a part of the university’s program and have been excelling in my artistic courses. My business has started to fully develop during this time, where I began to really dive deep into my business’ branding as well as what and who VikiiT really is. My modeling career has really blossomed while in college. Joining a local photography and modeling group had allowed me to express my creative freedom and ideas with a multitude of talented photographers. Together, with the help of these skillful individuals and my experience with professional modeling, I have been published in seven different fashion magazines as well as being a cover and featured model twice in only one year of being involved with the creative group.

Although it started when I was a young girl, my artistic journey has only just begun. I have been blessed with many accomplishments, inspiring and motivating the minds of plenty others to thrive in doing what they love. When you believe in yourself, you are capable of achieving anything your heart desires.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I feel very blessed with my life. There have been so many wonderful individuals, my family, my friends, my colleagues and professors have all greatly helped me to achieve as much success as possible in both my modeling and artistic career. I just finished attaining an associate’s degree in graphic design and animation, ready to keep pursuing onto getting my bachelors and possibly a masters in the coming future.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the VikiiT story. Tell us more about your art.
My freelance business offers both professional graphic design work for entrepreneurs and illustration work for those who wish to have something unique. Most of my artwork consists of my own original characters. In their own quirky and interesting way, I try to incorporate their personality into their appearance as much as possible. From each of these characters, you can identify details from their actions, or the way they dress and look, relating to what they have been through and what they may be like. As you may observe through my art, many of my drawings hold a lot of detail. The more you look into the drawing, the more you may see and analyze of how this creation came to be. Currently, with an associate in graphic design, I also specialize in various types of work ranging from logo, brochure, business card, flyer, and advertisement design. Apart from graphic design and illustration, I also model with local photographers around the valley to create unique and astonishing concepts mainly for publication work.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t truly believe that good or bad luck had anything to do with my achievements. If anything, they are due to my hard work and dedication to my dreams as well as the support and help from the absolutely wonderful people in my life. I would love to give a special thanks to my inspirational mom and dad, my exceptional boyfriend, lovely high school teachers Mr. and Mrs. Myers, all the talented photographers who took a part in creating amazing content with me, the huge support from my professors at GCU and Jose Aleman, who sponsored me to get interviewed by Voyage Magazine. I want to thank you all from the very bottom of my heart for being my good luck.
