Meet Veerachart Murphy of Ammo AZ in North Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Veerachart Murphy.

Veerachart, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Purchased a .22lr pistol for my wife for her birthday day over 5 years ago, Couldn’t find any ammo because of the hoarding, shortage, and over charging at the time. Research what I could do about it. High demand and minimal product availability equals opportunity in any business. File for an import federal firearms license and made monthly trips to Canada and imported the ammo myself. Store evolved from my garage into a store front and from just ammo to firearms, and now soon another move with a shooting range is in the near future.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Obama administration a monkey could sell guns. But what I had to learn along the way is which guns. Like most small business I too was strap for cash 1 month and swimming in it the next. Since Trumps election it is harder to sell guns but the ups and downs have flatten substantially.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Ammo AZ – what should we know?
Ammo AZ sell firearms and ammo. In the beginning we were known for always having .22lr ammo when no one else had it. Hence the monthly trips to Canada. What sets us apart today from our competitors is that we are NOT a traditional gun store. We have “cheeseball” yellow walls (yellow is the color associated with impulse buying). We’ve been known as the “adult candy store” and the “apple store of gun stores”. Where everything is on display for you to touch and feel and interact with. And more recently we have a “Build an AR” section in our store where customers can custom build their own AR 15’s with 1000’s of different combinations. Like a Lego store

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Be involved as an owner. No one will care about your success more than you do. Hire trust worthy people over skillful people when it comes down to a choice, you would always rather have both. But you can always teach the skill. As the owner or the manager you’re above nothing. I still sweep the floor, take out the trash, clean the toilets, make ammo and gun runs. In the corporate world they would just tell you to lead by example. I know because that’s where I came from. But it really puts things into perspective for my employees when they see the owner rubbing the toilet.
