Meet Trailblazer Macy Wallace

Today we’d like to introduce you to Macy Wallace.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Macy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My career journey began when I was just a junior in high school, I enrolled in Pima JTED which offered many technical programs for high school students including a Cosmetology program. I got accepted into JTED which I started at the beginning of the school year! I would go to school during the day and attend cosmetology school at night, on top of all of that, I worked a part-time job on the weekends. To say the least, I was extremely busy trying to stay balanced and focused on my goals. Fast forward to two years later, I completed my 1600 hours of beauty school and I was about to graduate high school, I had never in my life felt more accomplished and excited for my future. After taking the state licensing test and passing, I felt as if I was ready to conquer the world! I started to apply at salons all over Tucson with Gadabout Salon Spas being on the top of my list. A few months pass by and I got a call back from the Salon I had dreamt about working at… Gadabout!! When all of the interviews were said and done, I got hired as an Intern with hopes of completing their two-year internship program, so I could become a hairstylist at Gadabout! The internship was one of the most challenging yet rewarding things I have done in my career, thus far, I practically re-learned how to do every hair technique in a more detailed and advanced way. The day before my 21st birthday, I graduated from the internship program moving up my position at Gadabout to a hairstylist, I could not believe my dreams and wishes for myself were finally coming true! With all of this being said, I have now worked at Gadabout Salon Spas for five years surrounded by the most supportive and loving people, I have continually been learning since I walked in the door. I absolutely love going to work every day and I’m forever grateful for everyone who has helped me along my journey.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
With any new path, career, or anything new in your life you will always have thoughts of “Am I doing the right thing” or “Is this really for me?” Personally, the road for me has not always been smooth there have been numerous amounts of learning lessons and times where I have questioned and doubted myself. The hardest part of my Journey was realizing that I’m not always going to be perfect but I can always learn from every mistake I’ve made. The biggest advice I can give someone who is starting their journey is to believe in your self, learn from mistakes, and never take what someone says, does, or acts personally.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us more About you as a hairstylist, what should we know?
As a hairstylist, I am a very versatile stylist. I can do anything from crazy fantasy colors to braids to Unrecognizable hair transformations. My specialty would have to be blonde hair, I absolutely love creating all different shades and depths of blondes. I would say I’m known for the achievement of a great “cool” blonde. As a service provider, I am most proud of creating an excellent experience where all of my guests feel special and loved every single time they come into the salon whether it’s their first time seeing me or their 50th. What sets me apart from others in my Industry is the fact that I’m extremely honest, I don’t sugar coat anything especially if I know for a fact something won’t work with a guests hair.

Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I typically love to read motivational and inspiring books on how to become better in all aspects of life. Some of my favorites are: The Four Agreements By: Don Miguel Ruiz, The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari By: Robin Sharma, and The Secret By: Rhonda Byrne.
