Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Pitt.
Jennifer, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story with beauty has been one of those ever evolving things. It actually began in high school in the mid 90’s when I had the opportunity to take cosmetology as an elective. It was my favorite class in high school, but it also came to an end when I moved schools. I never really had the opportunity to venture back into the beauty industry until my early 30’s when I learned the art of spray tanning. I worked in that industry for about three years but it wasn’t as fulfilling as I had hoped. The opportunity to work in makeup sales ended up falling in my lap, in which I shifted my focus from spray tanning to makeup. I enjoy the sales side, but clearly not as much as doing the makeup myself. I spent a lot of hours watching videos, but I never felt relevant or justified to do anyone’s makeup without being backed up with credentials. I ventured out to find a makeup school for certification and graduated in just a few months, but with continued education always on my doorstep.
Has it been a smooth road?
I think the biggest struggle is the family work balance. For me, I still work a full time career in a different field of industry. Bridal makeup allows me to work mainly weekends (since most weddings are on the weekend). Because of this, it can put a strain on my family. Fortunately, my family supports every single step of my journey and never complains that I’m working too much. My advice to anyone getting into this industry is to make sure that you hold to your schedule firmly. If you’re just starting out, make sure you plug every gig, event, or makeup application into a calendar app, and don’t only hold yourself accountable, but make sure you also hold your client(s) accountable. Your time is just as valuable as theirs so make sure you secure your time with a deposit.

My makeup specialty is modern bridal. I love to work with the client’s natural beauty and play that up while mixing traditional elegant style with a modern flair. I pride my brand on being on time, with neat professional attire, and properly sanitized products and tools. I always like to state that I will be on time because unfortunately that isn’t the norm in this business. When I have a client in my chair it is my duty to make sure they feel pampered, beautiful, and ready for their event. Whether it’s a nervous bride or an excited model, it is always my duty to give them a wonderful experience.
Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
I think it’s my personality. As far as I remember I’ve always been driven to achieve. I am a goal oriented person and I see opportunities as goals or challenges and I like to take a goal, chop it up into smaller goals and I tackle them one at a time. I also tend to go all in when I’m excited about something. As I saw this opportunity for me to transform sales into full services, I did the most important thing – I invested in myself.
