Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Jenkins.
Erica, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story starts like many new moms, asking myself questions, What is my identity? Can I be something more than “just a mom”? Should I even try? I was losing myself in motherhood and I needed a creative outlet, so I started a blog. A simple family blog that has morphed, changed and grown multiple times over the past almost 10 years into what it is today, Everyday Airkaka. This has to lead me to friendships, opportunities, and growth that I never expected. I write and share from the heart and the most rewarding thing is to know that there is a tribe of mothers, wives, friends, and family supporting me and can relate to my everyday struggles, and successes.
Has it been a smooth road?
I believe that everything in life has its ups and downs and this is where you can fight or fall. I saw a saying recently “dreams don’t work unless you do” and that has really stuck with me. Yes, it has been a bumpy ride and being in the blogger/social media world is not an easy thing. There are comparison and fear around every turn, but something I’ve learned is that my story is unique and is worth sharing no matter how different it may seem.
My advice to other women and young women is this if you are breathing you have a story to tell. You have something no one else has and someone somewhere needs to hear your story.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I would say I wear many hats, sometimes too many, lol!
I have my personal blog and social media sites where I share about motherhood, self-love, body positivity, essential oils, love, and laughter. My husband and I also have a little woodworking shop on the side, AZ Craft Works. AND, I know something else, I have been with an amazing local site, East Valley Moms Blog, for the past 4 years as a writer and currently working as the Editor.
Out of all those things, I believe I am most known for my Instagram Airkaka, especially my Instastories. I don’t like bragging but they are pretty sweet. 😉 This is something I love and have a passion for so I work on growing everyday to share my story with as many friends possible.
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice for finding a mentor or networking is you have to get out of your comfort zone. This is an absolute must! I remember the fear I had after I purchased a ticket to my very first Arizona Blogger Meetup. I was terrified, but I survived and came away with a greater love and understanding of the amazing Arizona bloggers and influencers we have. Reaching out with a simple email or message has worked for me in growing and establishing myself. There is still fear, but it does get easier to step out of my comfort zone. You never know the road you will end up on and the journey you will take to get where you want to be.
