Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Ager.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ashley. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my blog, Mama State of Mind, almost a year ago as a way to express myself as a stay at home mom. I set out with a goal to someday be able to make an income from my blog. Within months of launching my blog, I was getting products to review and doing sponsored blog posts. From there, I branched out to become an Instagram influencer and it’s been a blast. I love creating content that catches peoples’ eye and sharing products I believe in. It’s truly given me a sense of pride in myself that wasn’t there before!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think the biggest struggle I had, in the beginning, was finding the money to get my blog up and running. As far as being an influencer goes, I struggle a lot with a comparison. I see posts and think “mine don’t look that good.” Another thing I’ve struggled with has been numbers; likes, comments, followers. It’s easy to feel like you’re failing when you see others so far ahead, but my advice is to focus on building YOUR brand in a way that is true to yourself. The followers, likes, and comments will come in time.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Mama State of Mind Blog – what should we know?
I would say my specialty is motherhood/lifestyle. Most of my posts show my day to day life with my daughters, along with the products we use and love. The thing I’m most proud of is just taking things slowly. I try to keep my focus on growing as a person and not as a “brand” per se. The way I see it, if you are your best self, you will succeed in whatever you do. I don’t feel like I’m really different from other moms or influencers, but if anything sets me apart it would be that I see everyone as equals. To me, it doesn’t matter what you have… it matters who you are at heart.
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
If I’m being honest, I’m the worst at networking. I find myself learning from afar as opposed to jumping in and asking questions. But, I don’t recommend you follow my footsteps. Find people in your niche that you admire and ask questions. Try to learn as much as you can from a variety of people, because no two people have the same experience. It’s something I’ve been working on lately and I’m trying my best to push past my anxiety and dive in, because I know it’s essential to success.
