Meet Ted Work

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ted Work.

Hi Ted, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in San Diego California and moved to AZ when I was a few months old. I went to Aztec elementary, Basis Scottsdale middle school, Saguaro Highschool, and finally ASU, first for physics, then switched to computer science. In Middle school, I began my love affair with performing music and that continued up through college where I was a member of the Arizona State Sun Devil Marching Band (in the front ensemble in the fall season and drum-set for basketball games in the winter season).

I graduated from college in 2019. I love computers but became fairly disillusioned at doing that kind of job day in, day out. I grew up as a huge fan of comedy, and I have many creative hobbies, music being the biggest one. Doing a soul-crushing job just wasn’t in the cards for me.

Once the covid lockdown took effect, I started recording a podcast with my father, who is a dentist in the Scottsdale area. After about 10 episodes of making “The Dentalworks Podcast”, he remarked that I could turn recording podcasts into a business. A year and a half later, here I am with a fully designed website and multiple shows under my belt. If you want a hassle-free way of producing your podcast, look no further than T Door Productions!

The biggest boon to my success has been joining a business networking group called BNI (Business Networking International). BNI is a place for business owners to meet once a week to discuss what they are looking for in clients as well as to help learn and grow their business. It can be very difficult to meet new people that may want to hire your services, and BNI makes it so easy by having a built-in network that you (As a fees paying member) get to visit and attend anytime you want!

I couldn’t have had any success without the support and assistance of my parents. Drs. Terry and Mary Ann Work and my fiancé Miranda Jones.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The biggest challenge that I face is putting myself out there. I have a hard time trying to sell myself to others. I know that I have the skills to create great quality content for clients, but actually sealing the deal is harder than it sounds.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
T Door Productions offers all-in-one podcast production by the episode.

We travel to your business location, we bring all the needed equipment, we set up, tear down, edit, mix, master, and upload your show to all the major Podcasting services (iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, etc.). All you have to do is talk into the microphone, we take care of the rest!

Whatever kind of show you want to put together, we can make it happen, be it a conversational interview, radio play, or even sci-fi fantasy adventure epic.

One thing that sets us apart from our competitors is every episode gets a custom artwork. PERIOD. Having a unique piece of art to accompany your episode helps the audience to differentiate and who doesn’t like a burst of color? The best thing is that this is included in every contract we work on. We also work with the client to create the perfect show artwork, the image that will represent the entire show on podcast services.

We try to find the best royalty-free music to introduce and play out your show, but if you don’t want a generic musical intro, we also offer the ability to record a custom theme song in any style you want! This is another way of setting your show apart from the competition.

You pay upfront for how many episodes you would like to record, (starting at 30 minute) with discounts available for BNI members and those who pay in full (we also offer a 4-installment payment plan).

If you don’t have a music or recording background, you may not realize how much goes into producing a podcast. That’s why we offer a crash course in podcasting from what equipment to get, what not to do when you record, to editing and mastering.

I am also a voice-over actor and usually record my own podcast intros and outros for the shows that I produce. My website has a fairly extensive set of VO Demos.

The thing that I’m most proud of is being able to record a fun show with my dad. He and I don’t always agree on things, but the podcast allows us to have deep, thoughtful conversations that we wouldn’t otherwise have. No matter what idea I have for a new show, he is up to try anything!

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Podcasts are bigger now than they have ever been and I think that there is an untapped market of business owners who want to have a more organic relationship with their clients and employees. I think a podcast is the perfect low-cost way of doing that. The ease of podcast consumption paired with its basically free nature leads me to believe that podcasts are going to be around for a long time. I mean, if you think about it, the basics of podcasting have been around since the first radio shows hit the airwaves. Podcasts are just the most convenient new form of this old idea.
