Meet Taryn and Anthony Vickman of “I Do” Rentals AZ

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taryn and Anthony Vickman.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My husband and I have always been the “do-it-yourselfers”, so when it came to our wedding day, there was no exception. We were engaged in December of 2015 and immediately began searching for the perfect wedding venue. We kept running into the same problems, too expensive or not enough free reign with vendors/decor. So the hunt began for a venue that allowed as much creativity as we desired. We finally found a brand new gorgeous backyard venue in Gilbert (The Modern Farm) that would allow us to bring any vendor and any decor we wanted. We were so ecstatic! So then the hard work began. We knew we wanted to create our own custom wedding pieces inspired by others we had seen at venues or on Pinterest.

We quickly discovered we loved doing this together and there had to be other couples looking for these pieces so why not turn this into a business? We would either sell everything when our wedding was over or continue to grow our inventory and build new and unique pieces and have a lot of fun creating this new business together. And so “I Do” Rentals AZ was born. We officially began in 2016, however, we quickly became pregnant (with my second and my husbands first) after our wedding and took a little break. Now that our son is here and life is getting back to “normal” (whatever that is) we have really begun getting ourselves out there. We have created farm tables with benches that seat up to 180 guests, a huge awesome bar, 4 different wedding arches for all different styles, yard games and so much more. I have also completely fallen in love with florals and offer wedding florals as well.

Our overall goal is to help couples who are trying to stay in a certain budget still have an over the rope beautiful wedding. We will go to any venue that will allow outside vendors and we will even create custom pieces specifically for our couples if we don’t already have something they are looking for. Every couple deserves to have their wedding exactly how they’ve always imagined it and we love seeing the joy on their faces when everything comes together. We have also met so many amazing creative vendors that share our passion which we never expected going into this. The wedding industry is huge and we are just having so much fun!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Defiantly bumpy. On top of welcoming a new baby, we have also purchased a new home which of course we just had to completely gut and remodel before moving in. Anthony also works full time with his carpet cleaning company that he owns with his dad so to say we are busy is an understatement.

It’s been pretty hard trying to balance time between building pieces for our wedding business, remodeling our house, regular jobs, kids, and still trying to enjoy being newlyweds. We’ve been donating our time, rental items, and flowers (which means lots of money) into putting together styled shoots with other vendors trying to get our name out there and network. We’ve had so much fun doing them but they are a lot of time and money so again it’s a balancing act.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the “I Do” Rentals AZ story. Tell us more about the business.
We have the wedding and event rental items. We specialize in custom wedding arches and creating that “must have” piece the bride and groom fall in love with from some photo on Pinterest or wherever and they can’t find it to rent.

We are the most proud of our farm tables. We specifically made them with better wood, the harder way to create a prettier table that is more durable and people will be more than impressed when they sit at them. We put so much attention to detail when it came to planning the design of these tables. We’ve seen too many that were built quickly and cheaply to make the most money but when you see them up close they just don’t seem like they really hold up to their expensive price.

We didn’t want that. We want people thinking the opposite, that our tables should even be worth more because they are so nice. We also sell our tables or any custom piece of furniture really! Send us a picture of something and if it’s made out of wood we can most likely make it for you.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We don’t believe in luck really. We believe in hard work and our faith. Our faith is what gets us through life and helps us follow the right path in growing our business.
