Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Mosby, Marta Hortel and Doug Warren.
DocUnited Imaging was founded by Marta and Susan in 2001. In 2012, they officially added another business partner, Doug. Doug started as an employee in 2005. They have a tight team that has worked closely together for many years. They all have the same attitude of putting their customer’s first and doing what it takes to get the job completed.
DocUnited implements and supports document management solutions for both private and government industries. This ranges from archiving documents for preservation to implementing workflow solutions to automate business processes. Their smallest customer is a 1-person accountant office and their largest is a tribal government.
Their first year of business was spent driving all over the state of AZ to generate business. They met with City/Town Clerks, IT Managers and CFOs. They had the attitude “No job too small”. They wanted to get their foot in the door, and grow the account by proving their capabilities. It was a lot of hard work and determination.
They also made the decision to not focus on a vertical, but instead to focus on business solutions. For instance, HR and AP business processes are similar across all verticals. This has given them experience in education, distribution, municipalities, manufacturing, finance, construction, and medical. They now have a strong customer base with referrals in different industries.
Running a business goes way beyond getting a sale and providing great customer support. There is the day to day grind of paying bills and managing projects that can be mundane, but just as important. Learning to automate your own business gives you more time to focus on more interesting endeavors. They have now moved everything to the Cloud, which makes their business more efficient and mobile.
It is also an advantage to have the great weather of Arizona as a business hub. They have very little downtime because of weather and always something to do to unwind. Happy Life = Happy Attitude = Happy Customers.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Our biggest struggle is the long sales cycle for document management software. This has made it difficult to hire, train and keep motivated sales staff.
Our second biggest challenge is taking time from our schedule to train new staff members regarding the technical aspects of the software, so they can implement and support our customers. It has been a very big advantage to have the same core group for several years.

Our customers often tell us we offer the best customer support than any other vendor. The world of document management has gone through a lot of changes in the last few years, and they can always depend on our level of commitment.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
We are a small company and success to us means name recognition and a good reputation. Our goal is to have all our customers glad to give us references and leads.
