Meet Stephanie Riel of RielDeal Marketing in Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Riel.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.

My journey to entrepreneurship goes back to my senior year in college. I was an awarded Journalism student at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Arizona State University. I was also pursuing a Business minor from the W.P Carey School of Business. When I took my first marketing course – I immediately fell in love and knew marketing was a professional path for me. The challenge I faced was that I was just a few months away from graduating and had 7 journalism internships under my belt – but no “traditional marketing” experience. I remember brainstorming how I could get real marketing experience before I graduated to give me an edge for building a career in the field and decided to start my LLC. What is known today as RielDeal Marketing started then, in the Fall of 2009. I took on contract and project work to immerse myself in marketing and leveraged that experience to enter into the work-force full-time in the Phoenix Valley. For nine years, I balanced a full-time workload and often worked on freelance projects in my spare time. The timing made sense for me to exit working full-time for someone else and to pursue my dream of owning and operating my own business full-time in January 2019. And I’m so happy I took the leap!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey we call life (and entrepreneurship) is anything but smooth – but that keeps it interesting, that’s for sure! I think any business owner will tell you every day has its struggles and its rewards. No matter the day or where we are on this ride, I always try to maintain gratitude for where I am first. There were days earlier on in my career, working in less-than-ideal environments for other companies where I would dream of running my own business full-time. Now, I’m doing exactly that. So, as long as I keep that perspective, there’s no obstacle or struggle that I can’t overcome. Those moments become an opportunity to learn and grow, and I’m all about the constant evolution for myself and my business, too.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about RielDeal Marketing – what should we know?
My business, RielDeal Marketing is a marketing and public relations firm that provides brand marketing services for small-to-mid-size businesses across the United States. We partner with clients to bring their brand’s story to life across many marketing channels including website, social media, email marketing, paid advertising, and public relations (to name a few). With my decade of experience in the industry, I’ve seen many of the pros and cons of working with an external marketing team, both from the perspective of in-house (working within the company and managing an agency partner) or being part of an agency (working as a partner to the brand). That experience has helped me grow and shape my business – creating strategies that enthusiastically communicate the client’s brand story, while also keeping the client’s target audience experience top of mind. I really view myself as an extension of my client’s team, acting as their in-house marketing director, in a way. And always treating their business and brand the way I treat my own.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
The first thing that comes to mind is a family trip my mom, dad and I went on. I don’t recall how old I was – but we took a part of summer vacation and drove the whole California coast. We started in Sacramento, hopped on Pacific Coast Highway and explored cities and local communities and businesses all the way down the coastline, eventually ending in San Diego. It was such an incredible trip!
