Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Neiheisel.
Stephanie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been a makeup artist for 10 years and 7 of those years have been here in Phoenix. I’ve done everything from working retail for large makeup brands to teaching advanced makeup courses at local cosmetology schools, to freelancing for commercial work and starting my bridal business. Four years ago myself and my business partner, Bryanna Casey, were both featured in the 2014 Scottsdale Modern Luxury ‘Best of the Valley’ issue and we met at their magazine launch party. The rest is history! Bryanna and I connected and found that we really wanted to work together. We started teaching classes around the valley and we came up with the idea of creating an agency in Phoenix that not only represents hair and makeup artists but also offers continued education and a strong community. We have our first studio in Scottsdale and we are having a great time as a team!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When I first moved to Phoenix I worked 4-5 jobs sometimes just to explore my interests as a young 20-something-year-old. My schedule was jam-packed and the majority of my freelance work the first two years was done for free simply because I was trying to build my portfolio and get my name out there. It was rough. I was lonely and honestly, not 100% certain makeup was what I wanted to do. I had a real adult-sit-down conversation with myself and once I knew I was going to go for freelance and really try, my career in makeup artistry took off. I found myself meeting the right people, having great experiences, and feeling fulfilled with my work. It’s been a long and exciting ride and I’m thankful for the bumps along the way.
Please tell us about Phoenix Makeup Collective.
We are an agency that represents hair and makeup artists. We offer hair and makeup services for all kinds of events around the valley. We specialize in high-end bridal, commercial, mens grooming, film/TV, as well as lessons and continued education. What sets us apart is our customer service, strong work ethic, the fact we offer a team versus a single individual, and our aesthetic. I’m most proud of the fact we have 6 talented women that can come together to work as a team and support each other’s talents. It’s so much fun!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have started this agency sooner. I think we are offering a great opportunity for artists to continue to grow and have a support system and we offer clients a fun and seamless cosmetic experience no matter what the occasion is.
