Today we’d like to introduce you to Steffanie Wilson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Steffanie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a child, I always adored watching my mother line her lips with a bright lipstick and, of course: use a lighter to melt her jet black eyeliner to the perfect consistency. I mean, we’ve all done it, right? I’ll never forget applying my first red lipstick on my 5th birthday, fresh out of my mom’s makeup bag — and knocking out my first tooth in the process!
I truly started to adventure into the freelancing beauty world in high school. I began to study makeup trends, use high-end products and hone in on my skills. One day, I decided push my insecurities aside to create my Instagram page, exclusively used as a reason to practice my passion. Immediately, I went right into playing with special effects illusions and drawing unusual and unique designs on my eye. My career skyrocketed from there.
As far as I can remember, I have always been incredibly savvy in the art with a burning passion for its beauty. From applying glittery eye shadow on my entire dance team to being so booked out during prom season I couldn’t attend myself, to leaving my entire family behind to accomplish my dreams, the love I have for this artistry form has hatched into the most beautiful butterfly.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As a woman existing within this amazing yet very cruel society, I have had my fair share of obstacles. There were mountains of abuse, mountains of heartache, mountains of rejection, even mountains of depression — but I climbed every single one. There came a point in my life when I was just so eager for a change, I was ready to conquer all challenges that came my way. I moved from one coast of the country (Pittsburgh, PA) to the other coast (Phoenix, AZ) to live out my wildest dreams. That, in itself, was by far the most terrifying obstacle I’ve faced. It’s so hard to dive into the unknown. But, this is my life.
I moved to Phoenix alone at only 18 years old, living with a small portion of my family. The life I had in the East Coast was not enough for my goal-driven soul, and I craved so much more. I ripped away with the chains of the past and dove even deeper into the unknown. I had to lay low in the industry to figure out where I stood. Of course, many people doubted my visions; sadly even those I love. I realized, however, in order to fully blossom, I had to dispose of the weeds that held me down. And that’s exactly what I did. This is me.
I am so much younger than others in this industry, but I have so much determination and devotion to be the best I can possibly be. At times, working within the beauty field can be tough. Amazing artists, or as some would call, “competition”, are around every corner. At times, I find myself wanting to be exactly where I want to be — NOW. It can be hard to look at the future with bright eyes 24/7, however, I always remember how far I’ve come, how fast I got here and how far I am going to go! Next stop: Las Vegas, NV. Soon after: Hollywood, CA. My goal is to be the most well-known makeup artist in the industry, working on and with the biggest names in film, owning my own cosmetic brand and having a huge impact of the way society views the beauty world. This is my passion.
We’d love to hear more about your art.
I am my own boss and I am absolutely loving it! I do not enjoy limiting my artistry, therefore I am very versatile. I specialize in very avant-garde, editorial-like designs, but my heart is truly everywhere. I love gory special effects. I adore elegant bridal beauty. I’m in awe of face/body painting. This is what truly sets my business apart from others within the industry — I can create any look you dream of with such precision and uniqueness, you will be a walking masterpiece! Consistently pushing the boundaries of makeup artistry is what I love most about my company. The natural talent I have is rare.
I take pride in utilizing the highest quality products for each of my beautiful clients. As a licensed professional. the skin is always the most vital factor for a seamless makeup application. Skin is always prepped according to your needs prior to base application and foundation is airbrushed on for a lightweight, flawless finish that’s sweat-resistant, water-resistant and 14+ hour wear. Whether you are in need of a naturally glowing look for your photoshoot, a full cut crease Kardashian-glam moment for your special event or just want to be covered in blood to scare all the kids on Halloween, look no further than Steffanie A. MUA for all your makeup charades!
What were you like growing up?
Similar to a majority of young adults in today’s world, my childhood was not easy. I grew up too fast, by factors out of my control, however, that always made me so devoted to being my best self. I was either shy or extremely goofy as a child, depending on how well I knew someone. Some days I threw temper tantrums when situations didn’t go my way, other days I danced in my room for hours to Hannah Montana. I was one unique little girl, to say the least. I’ve also always had the mind of an artist — I remember constantly drawing, coloring, painting and creating random things. I also used to love dressing up in my mom’s and aunt’s old dance uniforms for my grandparents and putting on “talent shows” with my sister and cousins. I truly believe the interests I had as a child contributed to shaping my uniquely creative mindset.
