Meet Sil Curiati of S.T.O.R.Y by Sil Curiati

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sil Curiati.

Hi Sil, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?

Of course, and thanks for inviting me! I was born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, and have always flirted with the idea of exploring the world and its different cultures.

After graduating in Advertising, I lived in Miami for 4 years, where I had the chance to work in truly multicultural markets, as well as learning to speak Spanish and cooking (which is still one of my favorite hobbies). I also fell in love with Ballroom Dancing, and I ended up competing (and winning!) in 11 categories.

I have more than 25 years of journey in Digital, CRM and Advertising, leading teams and transforming brands and their relationships with consumers in agencies, advertisers and publishers, but what I am really passionate about is human behavior, that’s what made me pursue a parallel path in my career, as the founder of S.T.O.R.Y by Sil Curiati.

I have been really passionate about stories since I was a little girl. One of my favorite hobbies is still listening to people and their stories. Having a creative verve, I keep recreating its parts and mentally rewriting it until getting to a better, or just different place – which I like to think it’s not a happy ending, but rather a fresh start and a new approach to continue.

So with that in mind, I started to offer this service professionally to everyone aiming at rebuilding their stories and revamping their careers.

S*T*O*R*Y stands for Strong Talented Original Remarkable You.

Now I develop a series of programs and activities focused on each individual and their interaction with the whole. And I also help companies to review and refresh their culture.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?

Definitely not a smooth road.

As a Latin woman living in the US, the Imposter Syndrome hit me harder than ever.

I went through long processes with therapists and executive coaches to feel empowered and believe in the power of my own story.

And it is definitely an ongoing process, as I like to think of myself as a constant work in progress.

Language, accent, style, approach — all these things tell a lot about a person, who they are and where they come from. And not everyone is open to accepting the differences.

On my Instagram I speak a lot about ageism and the struggles of women over 40 years old, because I am being impacted by that. Beauty, fashion, fitness… the society expects women to fit into certain standards that are absolutely unfair.

My struggles are what push me to do what I do, as I want to help minimize the harming effects of biases and harassments.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about S.T.O.R.Y by Sil Curiati?
I coach people and work with them to rewrite, retell and expand their story.

Oftentimes we struggle to connect all the dots in our lives in a way that it makes sense to recruiters and hiring managers. Many of us have tried different things in our lives, studied random subject matters, worked in random places just to make ends meet. And if we don’t understand the power it all has in our lives, we’re not able to sell ourselves in a compelling way.

My methodology has proven to be successful, helping people change their careers completely, as they wished.

I go deep in each one of the aspects that make up who we are, and find ways to connect them back to us.

I also deliver keynotes to larger groups and facilitate workshops in companies, usually related to building a more inclusive workplace.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe in creating opportunities. I believe in reaping what we sow. If I sewed something a year ago and now I am harvesting, it is not luck, it is work.
That being said, I also believe in good energy. Maybe that’s what some call “luck”.
Energy that comes back to us and will eventually present us with great opportunities.
