Today we’d like to introduce you to Sebastian Sandersius.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sebastian. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I first conceived the Ezra Arthur brand and many of the pillars the brand stands for when I was visiting in Brussels, Belgium in 2010. The fashion and culture of the city inspired me greatly and I penciled out many of my ideas for the company while drinking beer out of what most people would consider a wine glass and listening to jazz at Les Gens Que J’aime.
While I was there I was greatly inspired by the raw, genuine and high-quality fashion-retail scene there; I found the shops there were curated with a great balance of sophisticated French style and German precision.
At the time I was having some success with an online retail company I had founded with a college friend called Razor Emporium; we specialized in classic shaving hardware, particularly restored razors like vintage Gillette safety razors and antique straight razors from notable brands out of Sheffield and Solingen. We sourced most of our goods from antique markets and one of the things I learned from that was that at one point in time, Americans appreciated well designed and well made products. Common cliche come to mind like “they don’t make ‘em like they used to”, “quantity vs. quality”, “designed obsolescence”. By all accounts I realized that at some point the late 20th century, the American consumer market was conditioned to accept products that were designed to be used, destroyed, and purchased again, and again and again.
This motivated our Unique Selling Proposition: “Designed for Life” meaning both designed to last a lifetime and designed for everyday life.
This motivated one of the three pillars Ezra Arthur was founded on: to design and make products that are used every day, and will stand the test of time. This idea is expressed in our branding catch phrase: “Designed for Life”.
Has it been a smooth road?
The first two years were very tough. Establishing the notoriety and goodwill of the brand was most challenging – and that challenge is never ending as we expand to produce products in a growing number of categories.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Ezra Arthur – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Ezra Arthur is brand and US based manufacturing company that designs and produces heirloom quality lifestyle accessories for men. We make wallets, phone sleeves, optical cases, notebooks, belts, bracelets, pocket combs, straight razors and strops. And in the not too distant future we will be making bags.
We are most known for our wallets and belts. I think what sets us apart from most companies is that we go above and beyond to make products that are designed and built to be both elegant and incredibly durable. We use the best quality materials and production methods and our products come with a lifetime warranty.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like about Phoenix is the emerging culture and community here, especially in the Downtown area. What I like least are the months between May and September.
