Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Frost.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Scott. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was arguably the best professional pool player on planet earth for over 5 years and played pro for 25 years. I’ve lived in Tempe since 1999 and moved here from Des Moines Iowa. In the last 10 years I decided to use my name to help others in the community after losing my father to cancer I decided to help families and young people with cancer raising money. This helped me a lot with the city of Tempe and gave me credibility.
My entire career as a pro pool player, I always wanted to retire and open my dream poolroom and entertainment venue and this is how Freezer’s Ice House came to fruition! We’ been open going on 6 months and we’re rec voted top billiards room in America by Billiards Digest and made the cover! This is a global magazine and we were honored to receive this. I now work here 100 plus hours a week holding many different pool and dart leagues as we have 12 top of the line dart boards and 30 of the best pool tables in the world. We also have a full restaurant and separate but connected sports lounge that turns into a nightclub on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights with top DJs throughout the valley performing.
Once we stabilize this venue, we will be franchising throughout other parts of the valley and America! We have over 70 sixty-inch flatscreen tv’s, a dance floor, huge patio, retro video games and two monstrous bars to order your favorite drinks! “I can promise you that if you come here you will experience nothing else like it in the valley let alone America”!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Designing this was an immense challenge due to the size we are over 20,000 ft.² . Running a place this size with essentially 3 businesses in one was also definitely a challenge in the beginning because controlling all these areas needed special attention. The biggest issue we had was staffing and service. I’m a perfectionist and even though our staff told me how great they were, “only until they actually had to work and serve the customer was when we would find out whether they were going to work out or not”.
A place this size houses 4 managers, I’m included, plus a kitchen manager so our management payroll is not light to say the least. As for business itself it’s been very solid and only growing weekly so this is great and we are now holding onto solid servers and staff.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Freezer’s Ice House story. Tell us more about the business.
We cater to all walks of life. We have younger crowds, middle age and even the senior citizens. One thing I like most about this business is that nobody feels uncomfortable as a customer and there is plenty of space and something for anyone of any age to do. We have ping pong, bumper pool, video games, all the sports channel and a very relaxing patio. It’s almost hard to explain unless you see it for your own eyes as you walk in it’s just very spacious modern clean and happy feel. There is nothing comparable in the valley let alone America this is something I’m proud of!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
“I believe Luck is a residue of skill” … Think about that for minute… I was raised were the word (can’t) Or excuses were not in our vocabulary’s. I feel all the hard work helping the community and professional reputation I gained over the last several years played a major in gaining the trust of my amazing partner. So, if there’s any luck at all its possibly that but I can tell you that nothing replaces lock more than hard work and at the end of the day that is have freezer’s ice house became a reality. I’m a workaholic and you will never see me on this property not doing something. And I feel that is the only way to get somewhere in life, “it is not going to fall out of the sky and land in your hand”. I tell people all the time, “go out there and get it, chase your dreams down because they’re not just going to come to you and you only have one life to live so no regrets go for it”!!!
