Meet Sam Biswas of ROARK Industries in Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Biswas.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
A young 24 yr old structural engineering grad from a premier Institute in India gets recruited by the branch office of a US firm in New Delhi not knowing where it will take him. After just 6 months into my job, I get an offer to join the Virginia HQ of the US firm as Project Manager. At the age of 26, I was sitting on the board of the company as Director of Operations for the engineering division with additional business responsibility for managing a commercial software arm of the company. The same year, I came to Phoenix as Director of West Coast operations in year 2000…(age 26). Opened and ran profitable branch offices in Boulder, CO, Dallas, TX, San Diego, Sacramento, El Segundo, LA and Orange County, CA till 2010.

Then, joined as a partner in another engineering firm in 2010 in Phoenix and finally opened my own group of companies called ROARK Industries in Jan 2017. As a youthful licensed professional engineer at 42, and after 17 years of practice in Phoenix metro area and nationwide, I relish the love and goodwill bestowed by our clients which gave me the idea to create a world-class organization serving the needs of the mid-market in engineering, construction, and technology sector. The idea is to create a seamless network of technology, and flow of goods and services in a “flat world”. This lead to the inception of ROARK Structural Engineers, ROARK Construction and ROARK Exchange, all subsidiaries of ROARK Industries.

The ROARK Exchange is an import/export arm that serves as the umbilical chord to connect industry to talent, markets to goods and bring parity for all players in a healthy eco-system to sustain growth, create employment and bring change in “constructing a better world” (our tagline). There is a software consulting arm of ROARK Exchange, a joint venture software consulting firm in BFSI (Banking Financial, Insurance) and Healthcare. I am encouraged by the soaring growth in our firm in the very first year fueled by talented young professionals to carry forward our vision for solid growth based on strong customer service and providing the best consulting service for the money’s worth. I have no doubt we will be among the fastest growing firms in the Scottsdale & Phoenix Metro area for a long time.

We plan to hire highly creative & ambitious talent in the valley and create many “good” jobs in the coming years. I will strive to build a business empire “not based on ruthless business economics” but “with great brains, transparency, human values and clean moral code”…a business house that can last for generations and become “A Good to Great” business story for future generations! Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Initial start-up is always a struggle but when the talent is abundant, honesty and transparency is your policy, energy level is high and the goal is great, these hurdles are “NOT” hurdles anymore!

ROARK Industries – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
ABOUT – We serve the A/E/C industry in providing strong structural design consulting services creating plans and construction documents for residential, commercial, retail, industries and heavy industry. We are a KB-1 Construction Firm in the state of Arizona and foraying into land development and building infrastructure. We are an import/export firm dealing with govt to govt import and export of products including food grain, steel, steel pre-engineered buildings, technology and gemstone tiles, slabs, and sinks. We are a software consulting firm serving BFSI and Healthcare sector.

WHAT SETS US APART is our respect for our customers be it a small homeowner or a big FMCG firm, they always get the same care and attention. We think that with multiple consulting capabilities and worldwide approach, we can serve the needs of the customers better than others in a more “Whole” approach and cross-feed our expertise from different arms of the company to create great ideas in “constructing a better world”.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define Success as a function of positive growth in the direction of our ultimate vision fueled by the revenue growth to sustain the vision. The markers for this growth is not the ROI or the incremental revenue figures but the trends set by the conception and inception of the seeds of vision that are strategically planted into the veins of the company including the Human Resources, their growth and the goodwill achieved over a period of time as a function of these actions. I believe, if we have the fundamentals right, the clients and accounts are happy and the revenue will follow and exceed this curve.
