Meet Ryan Wolter of Tucson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Wolter.

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
It all started when my little sister was getting married. She didn’t want a traditional big resort or church wedding but a small backyard one. After looking at options for a bar company, the possibilities I found just didn’t fit. I was looking through Facebook Marketplace one day and saw a 1969 Milly horse trailer. I spent my weekends restoring the trailer and preparing her for her first event. With that trailer purchase and the first event lined up, launched Drafthorse Mobile Events. We now have 3 trailer bars, a photo booth trailer, multiple mini bars, photo booths, and a 360 video booth. We have both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options for bars, a slushy machine, a cotton candy machine, and other event rentals. We have hosted bars for weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, brunches, corporate events, networking nights, and more.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In every event we do, we tend to learn something. The draft horse started in 2020, so COVID, supply chain issues, gas prices increasing, restrictions on event sizes, etc., have all played a huge part in our not-so-smooth road. Also, we are based out of Tucson, so the wedding industry here is very small, and the demographic can be challenging for a horse trailer bar. A few more established bartending companies have exclusive contracts with venues, which means even when we did fit the event aesthetic, we may not have been able to serve at that venue. Over time, we have learned how to price our packages better, build relationships with other event industry professionals, and become the preferred bartending company at multiple venues.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Our specialty is crafting signature drink menus for weddings, corporate events, and any other events you can think of. We take care of the bar so you can be guests at your event. We work closely with our clients to develop a signature menu to match their aesthetics and taste. We offer professional bartending so our event hosts have the peace of mind that their guests will be safe and everyone can have a good time. We have beautiful trailer bars that add a wow factor to any event. All our trailers and minibars are fairly neutral and can be decorated to blend in with the event but still give a pop of pizzazz.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My friend and business partner, Charissa, has tremendously supported getting the business where it is today. She came in about a year ago just as a bartender to help me with my bookings, has brought in photo booths, and has taken over many of the day-to-day responsibilities. We both work full-time jobs outside Drafthorse, so we rely on each other to answer emails, quotes, etc., for our clients.
