Meet Rob Reid of The Reid Effect Production Studios in Central Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Reid.

Rob, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always loved stories and the creative arts. After high-school, it was either drama or video production for me. I thought by choosing video production I was opting for an education that would provide more opportunities for employment, only to find out, a bachelors degree later, that education counts for very little in the world of production! It is in fact the driving force behind my decision to start my own company. I was desperate to tell stories, and I found that even in the corporate world of video production, we all have a story to tell.

As a true accidental entrepreneur, I’ve learned many lessons the hard way over the years. We’ve fought our way through the ups and downs like everyone else and have grown in recent years I think in part, because of the lessons learned during those tough times. 2018 will mark 13 years in business for The Reid Effect Production Studios in Arizona and every year, I fall more in love with my job! It’s a true blessing to work with such a huge variety of businesses in Arizona and around the country! Video production in the corporate environment means that every new customer offers a glimpse into a new industry where the people are as diverse as the work they do. And, I can tell you from 13 years experience – there are a LOT of amazing stories to be told in the not-so-average, everyday lives of businesses around the state.

We’ve had the great privilege of working with some fantastic brands along the way, including Adidas, T-Mobile, Xbox, Pepperidge Farm and many more. We’ve won nearly a dozen Telly Awards for excellence in production, and had the honor of premiering a documentary at the Vail Film Festival, rated one of the top 10 destination film festivals in the world!

It’s anyone’s guess where things are headed in this increasingly technological world, but the future looks bright for those in the world of digital media. Our hope is to keep forging ahead, telling great stories and adapting to the ever-changing world of video production.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Everyone has a story to tell, but not everyone has the money to tell it with video. My work with the larger national brands taught me invaluable lessons and strategies for creating effective and engaging digital video content, but the reality within the local business community is that most businesses just cannot afford the costs associated with the development process.

For years, I struggled to find a solution, but found that the truth is that most companies can barely afford to create a few videos for their website, much less strategic marketing videos or ongoing video content for social media. It’s been an exciting journey trying to crack the code that would allow more businesses to take advantage of the benefits of video production and in 2017, we were thrilled to launch a new venture called VidProQuo. While I’d love to take all the credit for this new concept, the truth is that changes in technology and the world of social media were the things that made VidProQuo possible. Smartphones today shoot HD footage that looks and sounds great, and consumers on social media are hungry, not for highly polished ads, but for authentic content that gives them a real glimpse into the brands they love most.

VidProQuo is an inexpensive, evergreen subscription model that helps businesses take advantage of the benefits of using Video on social media by teaching them how to shoot their own content on their smartphone and them uploading them to our project management platform. Our team of editors take their content and edit them together using graphic bumpers, titles, licensed music and anything else our clients need. A quick turnaround means that clients can be posting their professional videos online in a timely matter. When a new client signs up for VPQ, we send them the VPQ gear kit, a small kit of accessories to be used with their smartphone. Adding a microphone and light to your shoot can significantly increase the quality of your footage.

I am so excited to see how the public will respond to VidProQuo (! I still believe there is a time and a place for the highly produced, polished content that The Reid Effect creates, but I’m also excited to finally have a real option for the thousands of businesses around Arizona that would love to be telling their amazing stories with video!

Please tell us about The Reid Effect Production Studios.
The Reid Effect Production Studios is a boutique production studio. We handle just a few projects at a time, ranging from corporate compliance and training programs for large companies with employees around the globe to simple client testimonial videos and ‘about us’ style videos that highlight businesses around the state.

While we’ve had the great fun of producing several documentaries and other long-form video content, the vast majority of our work is in the corporate space, from broadcast commercials to web-based digital media.

What I hear most consistently from my various clients is that they really enjoy the personal connection. I make every effort to really understand what my clients are hoping to accomplish, and then to give them honest feedback about what I believe what will and won’t work. Video is a medium that can be molded in many different ways. My goal is to outperform my clients expectations by providing exceptional content.

Now, with the addition of VidProQuo, I truly hope we’ll see a new waive of video content being created by the amazing small business community in Arizona. Their stories are every bit as inspiring and they deserve to be told!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I was raised in the deep, deep jungles of Peru. The son of missionary parents, I had an unusual childhood. Running barefoot down the dirt roads and staring out the screen windows of our school house created a dreamer early-on in life. One of my fondest memories is a boating trip down the amazon river with other students. Fishing for our food and camping in tents on the bank of the river, the thick and heavy smell of the wood fires and pulling our large canoes through the deep mud in certain parts of our journey left a powerful imprint that is still vibrant some 30 years later!
