Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Rodarte.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Rebecca. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have definitely traveled a meandering road. The choices I have made, however, have always been about working on my writing craft or helping others. I began my writing career in journalism in Canada working for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. But I was bitten with the travel bug, so I took up teaching Conversational English and found my way to S. Korea, where I had the most wonderful experience traveling Asia. I could have spent my life teaching English and traveling, but I was lured to beautiful and hot Phoenix, Arizona, where I continued to hone my writing craft by working in magazine publishing and education.
After years of working full-time and trying to squeeze in my own fiction and non-fiction publishing, I quit my job and took a huge leap of faith to become a full-time writer and entrepreneur.
Today, I’m an indie author of screwball romantic comedy and creator of sassy how-to guides designed to empower women.
Has it been a smooth road?
I think I can best describe my voyage as a straight upward climb. As soon as I reached the peak of one mountain, I’ve found there’s yet another mountain to climb. For example, it’s almost a full-time job to keep up with so many rapid changes in social media and other technology tools. But I keep asking questions and learning.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My romantic comedy, Dating in the Desert, Book 1 of the Sassy Saguaros Series, is packed full of sassy heroines who are strong, quick-witted, intelligent women. While they may have a hard, thick skin and be a little prickly on the outside (just like the Saguaro cactus), readers will also find soft-hearted, compassionate female characters.
Jumping off that theme, my Sassy How-to Series, which includes my signature title, “How to Be Your Own Sassy Heroine” gathers stories from my own life with ideas on how women can start becoming their own sassy heroine following a divorce or breakup!
As a writer and creative, I’m most proud of my Sassy Heroine brand, which is designed to empower women of all ages, racial/ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or lifestyle preferences. As far as I’m concerned the only requirement to be a sassy heroine is that you are someone who enjoys helping others, by sharing tips on how you have dealt with sticky and challenging situations! Because we’ve all been there. My hashtags include: #sassyheroine, #sayitwithsass, #doitwithsass.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Wouldn’t we all want to have everything just fall into our laps? I think my life’s personal and business journey has been about being aware of opportunities and delivering my best performance no matter what. When I have found doors closed to me, however, I’ve made my own opportunities.
