Meet Ray Thiry of Ray Thiry Music in East Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ray Thiry.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started playing my dad’s drums as a toddler. I picked up bass in my fifth grade school orchestra. I dug it and I stuck with it. I was in all the school ensembles, I went on to music school, and I still do it today. Music always seemed like the logical choice to me. I don’t know what else I would do.

Has it been a smooth road?
I definitely work hard and I’ve overcome obstacles along the way, but like to keep things in perspective: I play music for a living. I live a pretty charmed life compared to most. I’m not complaining.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Ray Thiry Music story. Tell us more about the business.
I’ve been a professional musician in the valley for 15 years. In that time, I’ve been a part of many different musical experiences so I have a good idea of how to please a client. Ray Thiry Music, LLC is simply a no-nonsense approach to providing entertainment for clients while eliminating the middle man. I don’t have a flashy business name or gimmicks. I don’t have employees or extensive overhead. This is me, this is what I do, and I think I’m good at it. I think you’ll agree.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think the music industry will see a renaissance of acoustic instruments and live performance. Recorded music released through a big label isn’t as profitable as it once was and I’m personally a little tired of hearing the biggest stars complain about it! lol They’ll have to adapt. Almost every local musician makes their money from gigs (not record sales) while the biggest stars play 30 shows every four years and expect to be multi-millionaires. Wanna make more money? Play 100-200+ gigs a year in smaller venues like the rest of us and charge $20/ticket. I bet those shows would be great!

Pricing:

  • Basic DJ packages start at $499.
  • Basic live band packages start at $699.
