Meet Pedro Perez Nuñez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pedro Perez Nuñez.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My name is Pedro Perez Nuñez and I’m a storyteller, writer, director, and overall filmmaker. I was born in Guaymas Sonora, Mexico and moved to Arizona at the age of 11 years old and I’ve been here ever since. I currently work as a freelancer in film/ commercial production here in Arizona. I’m married and have two handsome boys. They are my daily inspiration and what pushes me to work hard in my craft.

Please tell us about your art.
I’m a Writer/ Director and overall storyteller. I love to come up with stories that connect and resonate with people. I want to tell stories that move people and make them laugh or wonder for weeks. I think every compelling film is subject to its storyline. I believe that a film is not about the special effects and explosions, it’s about the raw emotions; I want to tell stories that move people and make them laugh or wonder for weeks. I would love to make an impact on peoples lives when it comes to my films.

I’m currently working in the pre-production of his first feature film “Fútbol Kid” a comedy about a coach and his underdog soccer team trying to make it to the big leagues; A story I wrote based on the soccer community in Phoenix and about real people I met throughout the years. My short film “Paradise Terrace” a drama about three interwoven stories that take place in an apartment complex, is currently continuing its festival run around the US and internationally. The short film got selected in The Phoenix Film Festival, Oaxaca film festival, Dumbo Film Festival, London international motion pictures festival, Lift off global network film festival and was a finalist in The monthly film festival.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
It all depends on what kind of art an artist is creating. For me, the process is different; I have a very busy schedule. So hardly get any alone time. The times that I’m alone, I use it to write or plan out projects, but when the project is in the pre-production phase I usually have a producer that can help me with that, then the production part is amazing because I get to be surrounded by a talented crew. I love to bring a group together to make a film/ project. Then we get to the post-production side and it’s a lot of going back and forth with different people to get the final product done. So not so much of lonely moments with filmmaking.

My best advice to other artists is to try and break out of that loner bubble. Social media is great for that, don’t be afraid to ask people you admire for a piece of advice about their craft or even to collaborate. And if you’re a filmmaker, don’t try to make it on your own, it’s hard work without a team of friends to help you out. And mainly have fun with the process.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
