Meet Paul and Matt Keeler of Liberty Station in Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul and Matt Keeler.

Liberty Station an American Tavern is the latest culinary endeavor from Keeler Hospitality Group, who owns Market Street Kitchen in DC Ranch and Spencer’s for Steaks and Chops in Omaha, Nebraska. Father-Son team Paul Founder/Owner and Matt Director of Operations developed the concept and head up the operations.

Open daily for lunch and dinner, Liberty Station serves American comfort food with regional touches, including several nods to the Keeler family’s Boston roots. The bar at Liberty Station offers vintage cocktails created in a very classic style, and local craft beers, plus a wide array of wine options.

Executive Chef Dan Watts and Executive Sous Chef Giovannie Young head the kitchen. The pair has created a menu using many locally sourced ingredients, which include creative “shareable” appetizers, sandwiches, pasta, and salads.

Entrees feature fresh seafood, steaks, and chops. Liberty Station smokes many of their high-quality meats from Creekstone Farms on a custom made smoker (made by Camelback Smokers), prominently displayed on the west side patio of the restaurant.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been extremely smooth and we have been surprised by the turnout and support from the local community especially during the summer months. We are very much looking forward to a very busy and successful upcoming season.

Please tell us about Liberty Station.
We are a family owned and family run company. Therefore we treat our team members like a family who in turn treat our guests like family. Our goal is to take a first-time guest and make them a regular the moment they walk in the door. We strive to make our restaurants as an extension of our guests home.

In looking at opportunities for restaurants we never go into the opportunity with a preconceived notion of what the concept should be. We look at the surrounding area and determine what is needed and what the prospective guests are looking for and what will best fit the community. We are also a very charitable organization and love to give back to the community by hosting charity events as well as fundraisers.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Built a larger smoker as our BBQ is so popular it is hard to keep up.
