Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Trink.
Hi Nicole, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi! My name is Nicole Trink. I’m a wife and full-time mama to my 4-year-old, Aden, and 2 year old, Myla. I instantly fell in love with barre after taking my first class at Pure Barre a little over 9 years ago and knew I wanted to become an instructor shortly after that. In 2016, I pulled the trigger on training with Christa McCormick from Ten Point 5 Barre Studio here in Scottsdale and went on to teach full-time at CA Yoga Barre with Courtney Allen shortly after its closure. By the time I got pregnant with Myla, I was teaching upwards of six classes per week and squeezing in my workouts on top of that. Once she was born, that scaled down significantly. Having a newborn can be extremely isolating for any mom; having a newborn during the height of a pandemic is even more so. Naturally, it didn’t take long before I started missing my’ me time’ at the barre. I began brainstorming ways to safely get back into the studio without sacrificing time with my baby, and the concept of Mama Barre came along. At the time, they had long canceled most local ‘Mommy & Me’ classes because of Covid, and I knew I couldn’t be the only mother looking for an outlet. I opened enrollment to my first 6 Week Series in February of 2021, with only 8 mamas signed up. Fast forward a year and a half and 10 sold-out series later, Mama Barre has not only grown into a full-time business venture but also into this wonderful community of moms that I’m lucky enough to consider friends.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have to say the biggest challenge I’ve had so far was deciding to leave the studio I created the series at and venture out to different locations. It wasn’t easy to put my relationships aside and think about my choice as a business owner.
I had a great support system and clientele that gave me the push I needed to take Mama Barre elsewhere. After making this choice, I had to work hard to dedicate more time to the logistics of Mama Barre. As a mom and now running a business, I have to schedule my time wisely.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Mama Barre LLC?
Aside from building muscle, and believe me, when I say it only takes a couple of weeks to notice results, there is also a strong sense of community amongst the moms who sign up for my series. I think that’s why so many of them keep coming back. Watching how the class evolves from Day 1 to the end of each series never seizes to amaze me. I have moms who have been around since the first one, so I’ve watched their babies grow up as well. I always create a group chat for each series to keep the moms informed of any schedule changes that may come up, allowing them to communicate outside of the studio for scheduling their own play dates and even asking for advice. My highlights of the classes are when the toddlers start copying their mom’s moves during a workout. Myla and Aden randomly do planks and squats around the house, and it makes me melt knowing they learned from watching me teach. I think it’s influential for children to understand the importance of living a healthy life early, which can really plant the seed for them.
