Meet Nick Ballantyne of NightRider Jewelry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Ballantyne.

Nick, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Back in 2005, I was going to art school to become a graphic designer. My father-in-law George Ganem was going to a few bike shows where he and a few of his buddies were selling jewelry. There were some complications at the show in Laughlin, Nevada and George needed someone to rush up and help him finish the show. My wife, Natalie, and I ran up to the show to help him finish it out. At the time the jewelry that they were selling was a line of jewelry that was produced overseas and they were just reselling it.

Beginning at the show and continuing when we got home George and I started to come up with the idea of designing and building our own line of jewelry. Shortly thereafter George, Thad (my brother), and I started designing, creating, and selling our own line of jewelry.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely struggles all along the way. Making an American made product in an industry that is oversaturated with products that are produced overseas is a challenge. As we grow it is a challenge for us to evolve into leaders and it requires you to learn how to define your purpose and vision as a company, teach it to others, and do your best to get everyone working towards a unified purpose. It’s one thing to be a good artist or a craftsman yourself but something else entirely to teach and lead others to do it.

NightRider Jewelry – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are artisans that put our heart and souls into creating products that we are proud of. The way it’s made, the message it carries, and everything about it is a reflection of who we are and what is important to us. Every piece tells a story. I believe we have developed extremely loyal customers because of our commitment to the artistry and craftsmanship, the pride we take in creating an exceptional American Made product, and our genuine effort to treat those that support us as family. Those things matter and resonate with people. They not only want to buy and wear your pieces they feel invested and a part of the story.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
In personal life – staying true to the things that matter most to me – to God, to my Family, and earning an honest living. No amount of success will matter to me if it comes at the price of my family or my conscience.

In business – to share the opportunity we’ve been blessed with as many people as possible – the opportunity to contribute, to be creative, and to make a good living doing something you enjoy. That’s what makes us feel like we are succeeding. When the people that work here love what they do and when our customers support us with their hard earned cash because they want to be a part of it.
