Today we’d like to introduce you to Myriam Valenzuela.
Myriam, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been a dancer since age 4 years old and came across Polynesian dancing when I was 10 years old. My passion for dance continued to grow and I opened my first dance studio when I was 24 years old in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, where I taught 5 classes daily, 5 days a week while being a young mom, including belly dancing, jazz, Hawaiian and Tahitian dance. Soon I came across Pilates, which I also incorporated, along with gentle yoga. My husband was offered a job position in Arizona and we moved. During this time, I had two more children whom I dearly love. As my children grew I missed dancing and teaching, so I decided to become a yoga instructor and simultaneously during a 6-year period went to Oahu for deep intensives in the art and mastery of Hula. After my yoga teacher training I opened the doors of my garage to my neighbors and taught 1 class daily between dance and yoga, for kids and adults. We moved a couple of times and I kept reopening my house for classes until my oldest daughter reached the age of High School and we decided to move to Chandler. My dreams of opening a bigger venue with a beach themed healing studio in a commercial space were finally tangible. I searched for a beautiful home and a well transited commercial space and soon found both. I am now in my third year of being in Chandler and could not be happier to watch my studio flowering and building a strong community of yogis and dancers alike.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Besides the challenges of being a working mother, the main struggles along the way have been to get people to “try” the new place when you are new in town, with a new concept, young and not tech savvy. Now over the years I’ve been showered with friendships and wonderful reviews from the heart. I’ve also learned and I’m continuously learning about the latest social media trends and advertisement. I currently have a new business as well called Organic Skin by Myriam which is handmade and formulated by me with no animal cruelty or testing and completely natural and organic where I am applying everything I have learned from running my yoga studio. I try to reach the most popular platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, google and yelp. Another big challenge was the lack of income at the beginning while having to cover rent, instructors and every other expense that running a business has like internet, software, etc.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Aloha Yoga and Hula story. Tell us more about the business.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I personally do not believe in luck, I do believe in the energy that we create attracts what we want in life. I have a dream in my mind and once you can see it in your mind, it becomes a reality.
