Meet Monique Reyes of Arizona Royalty Salon in North Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Reyes.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Monique. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in West Phoenix, Arizona. I went to Trevor Browne High School and graduated with a diploma and a Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate. I was in healthcare for 12 years, then decided to go back to school. I wanted a career that would stimulate my creative side and wouldn’t have me in school for years. I have always liked to do hair. I would spend hours in my room doing my hair in different styles such as sew-ins, silk press and braids. Eventually, I enrolled in Penrose Academy in Scottsdale, Arizona. It is a cosmetology school that emphasizes the beauty industry to its students. There, I found my calling. (LOL) I won a competition that allowed me to assist a salon at Phoenix Fashion Week “Spring Into Style 2015.” From that point on I wanted to see my work on the runway, so I did whatever I could for the next 3 years to build myself up as a session stylist. Now I own a salon building up other artists to be session stylists as well. My goal is to be The Trend Setting Salon in the Southwest Region with the Best Hair Artists of all time. It is time for Arizona to be known for more than just being a desert.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. It has been the roughest in my life. There were times where I was ready to throw in the towel. The school was full time, so I had to let my job with Hospice of the Valley go. Which caused me to have financial struggles. I was homeless and couch surfing at one point during my transition. Once got the key to my salon location, I had to keep pushing my opening date back due to the city of Phoenix Inspection. We finally Passed the morning of the Grand Opening on July 3rd, 2019. The will always be adversity in life; it is what will keep you humble.

We’d love to hear more about your company.
Arizona Royalty Salon is a locally owned upscale salon in the north valley. We specialize in all things hair from cuts, colors and styles to extensions, brow/lip threading and deep conditioning treatments. We also do natural hair like locs, box braids, etc.

As a company, we take pride in humanizing the guest experience. You are not just a number or a dollar sign in our salon. We value you and guarantee a Royal experience with each visit. Our quality services and products set us apart from others. Also, our reasonable prices help too.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Phoenix is the perfect place for a business like mine. I would recommend anyone to start any kind of business out there. There is a lot of untouched territories here in all industries, not just beauty.
