Meet Milton Nero of Hoodini Hoodie Sportswear in Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Milton Nero.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Milton. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Grew up on the mean streets of Chicago southside in the sixties, and raised by one of the toughest ladies ever to walk the streets of Chicago my grandmother or as everyone knew her as Moma. This was a driven woman and protector who by her side my grandpa raised ten (10) kids. I attended parochial school my first twelve years before college and took classes as Northwestern University my freshmen year before moving on to Arizona State University. Sports was always a friend to me during the rough times in my life. One day while teaching tennis lessons I reached up and noticed my head was on fire Immediately I thought to myself I was dying until someone pointed out that it was just a Sunburn. I quickly noted that I’m black and we don’t burn yet did I know that my Indian heritage would allow burns and skin discolorations. Thus, the Hoodini Bodiless Hoodie was created to be no fuss and to protect only what matters most while outdoors your head. It has been quit a ride thus far manufacturing and producing in the states on a string budget. Discussions have been had with several sports agents about professional athletes representing my hoodie line but greed gets in the way and introducing something special to the outdoors person.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road, the road has been filled with pot holes and inaccurate details. One bump at a time has been my motto to help me push on. We encountered huge cost changes along the way when we decided on total full color sublimation instead of screenprinting. Our spot color logos were spot on but with the additional of our new DTG machines were on point. We also noticed that going 80/20 polyester had an even bigger effect on the planet so recycling became our focus. Profits have not been steady or great but we hope to provide more club teams our unique brand of gear.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The business is called Hoodini Hoodie Sportswear… I thought it’d be funny to capture the magic of the great Houdini (Magician). Recreating the magic of apparel when not in use appealed to me to make it light weight and maneuverable or easily hidden. The Hoodie was made to protect the head temperature while staying cool.

The microbial principles of the fabric are to keep the body cool while under strain and relax the body while calm. We have extended our line to include tees, full body hoodies, and athletic training body gloves. Everyone wants a clothing line or name up in lights, we simply want to provide a different approach to buying everyday apparel, and the disposal of it. We aren’t money driven or sales driven but a patient company seeking to provide those looking for an alternative to recycled wearable’s.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I had to listen to my siblings or be tormented by my elders. Once at school, I evolved into an athlete and focused my energies on being creative and productive. I wasn’t shy nor was I afraid of saying what was on my mind.
