Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Strauch.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Michael. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a 19 year old entrepreneur that is currently attending Lindenwood University pursuing a Bachelor Of Arts in Entrepreneurship. I have never shared my story with you, so I feel it is only fair to walk you through from the beginning of my career on YouTube.
Over 5 years ago, I started my very own YouTube channel. That YouTube channel is known now as, ComputerMDofGilbert. Now, you are probably asking yourself where I got the name and most likely some of you thought my name was Gilbert. However, let me explain. Currently, I live in a suburb of Phoenix, AZ called Gilbert. At the time I started my YouTube channel, I was teaching 55+ senior citizens how to use the computer in my city. Thus, I figured ComputerMDofGilbert would be a good name if I ever decided to use YouTube to teach some of my clients.
With that being said, to give you a frame of reference, I was 13 years old at the time. Once I started the YouTube channel, I fell in love and I was ready to start branding it. I wanted to create my very first website for this channel. I scoured the web for great web design platforms, but came up short. Then, after several days of searching, I came across Wix. To me, Wix was different.
Wix provided me a platform I had never seen before. I literally thought it was something out of a book. For the first time, I found a free web design platform that was easy to use and gave you complete freedom over the design. From that moment on, I knew I would use Wix as long as I built websites.
Now, if some of you have watched my YouTube channel long enough, you would know that I started with just technology reviews, updates and tips. Meanwhile, I was building my own Wix websites to learn more about how to use the editor. During this time, I got extremely passionate about Wix and building websites. However, I did not have anyone to share my passion with or sell my passion to. For the longest time, I would beg friends and family members to let me build them a website for anything. Of course, them all being so kind and loving, they gladly accepted. Back then, Wix did not have the tools, resources, apps and updates that they have today. I started off making very mediocre websites (even though I thought they were amazing). Now, Wix has provided me the tools to create stunning websites at an amazing cost.
Anyway, to get back on track, I fell in love with using Wix. Once that happened, a light bulb went off in my head. I figured that I could start sharing my knowledge and passion for Wix on YouTube. That is when I began making Wix tutorials. Now, the same time I began making Wix tutorials, I had a lot going on in my life.
To begin, I was a sophomore in high school and for people that have gone through it before know that it is a difficult time. However, I had some other factors going on alongside that. First, I was struggling with my weight. I am 5 foot 8 and the summer between sophomore and junior year, I had put on a ton of weight. I got up to 216 lbs. Just so you know, that is outrageous. I had slowly started becoming depressed, because of how large I had got and how ashamed I was to look in the mirror. Thankfully, as I will get to it soon, I decided I needed to make a change in my appearance.
Now, while all of that was going on, I was also battling another huge and mentally draining issue. I had been chasing this girl of my dreams since the beginning of sophomore year. Time after time, I was getting what we call “friendzoned.” Which if you do not know what that means, it is basically when a girl or guy tells you that he or she would rather just stay friends and not date you for whatever reasons he or she may list. I know you may say, well why didn’t you just stop trying with this girl. My answer to you is this, she was different. She was everything I could have ever imagined in a girl. Needless to say, I knew if I wanted to have a better shot at getting the girl of my dreams, I needed to beef up my appearance.
Once I flipped that switch in my head and I made my weight loss a personal mission and a mission to get the girl of my dreams, it all came together. It is at this point in my life where I learned one of the most valuable lessons ever, discipline.
So, the picture to left was me during that summer between sophomore and junior year. However, as I mentioned, I decided I was going to make a change. I began going to the gym every day and I started eating healthier. Once that happened, I started to notice results. I noticed that the fat on my body began to diminish.
I can say with no shame that I love food. Obviously at that time, my love for food and me eating my depressed feelings away carried on too far. But, as I began to eat healthier, I started to feel better. My body felt as if it was rewarding me for feeding it good nutrient dense foods.
As I continued going to the gym and getting results, I got hooked. Fitness starting taking over as one of my top interests. I was going to the gym six sometimes seven days a week and was eating an extremely clean diet. I fell in love with fitness.
For that, I am forever grateful. I am now proud to announce by the time I hit the end of junior year I had a reported weight loss of over 60 pounds and I was feeling amazing. I added muscle to my frame, sped up my metabolism and began looking lean.
My personal mission turned into a huge success. Although I was extremely proud of this, what happened next will knock your socks off.
After two years of extreme persistence and constant rejection, I finally got the girl of my dreams.
Her name is Delaney and this girl is my world. She supports me in everything I do and picks me up when I am down. You know, I always asked myself if I thought at the end of these two years if all of my hard work, discipline and persistence would be worth it. Let me tell you, it was worth it a billion times over.
I am now thrilled to report that my girlfriend and I are happier than ever. I am a firm believer that things are meant to be and with hard work alongside it, you can make anything happen. Like they always say, what the mind can believe, the mind can achieve. Trust me, I believed in my head that I was at one point going to get my opportunity with this amazing woman. Although I did go through periods of extreme depression and doubt, I never gave up and that little spark never died out.
What is even better is that almost a month ago to the day, my girlfriend and I walked across that stage together and we both graduated. But wait, there is more! After careful research and endless hours of communication, we have decided to take the next step in our journey together and go to college together.
We are now living St. Charles, MO as we started our higher education at Lindenwood University. The school is absolutely stunning and offers some amazing programs and the town is gorgeous. Delaney is studying for a major in Sports Management and I am studying for a major in Entrepreneurship. We are both very excited and ready to start the next chapter in our lives together.
Now, one thing Delaney and I love to do is travel! So, after we graduated we were fortunate enough to take a senior trip together to Europe. We visited the United Kingdom. In the U.K. we stopped in Scotland and England.
To the left is an image of us in front of the gates at Buckingham Palace in London. Although Scotland was beautiful, England took home the grand prize as my favorite country. Delaney and I both agreed that our two favorite cities on the trip were York, England and London, England.
Needless to say, Delaney and I have had quite the journey getting to where we are today. However, we couldn’t be happier and I wouldn’t be at this amazing spot in my life without the love and support from her.
This should be a lesson to all of you, that with hard work, persistence, discipline and little bit of charming anything is possible.
Now, this story does have a conclusion regarding my business as well. However, I would be crazy and lying if I didn’t tell you that my family has stuck by my side every step of the way. I appreciate all the hard work and effort my parents have poured into me for the past 19 years. I feel very prepared to enter the real world thanks to you guys. Also, my brother, although we occasionally bicker like most siblings do, you have truly grown into an amazing young man. I am proud and lucky to have the privilege to call you my little brother. I am very proud of you and your accomplishments. Like my dad always did for my businesses, I am going to do for my brother. He just recently got into music producing, and he is doing an amazing job, so be sure to check out his Sound Cloud page here.
Of course, my mother has supported and loved me from day one. She has always been my biggest fan. She stands by my side and shows me true strength on a daily basis.
Finally, I would like to personally thank my dad for sharing all of your business tips, tricks and lessons with me over the years. I have watched your business grow into something you should be very proud of. You have equipped me with the tools to be able to do what I am doing today.
That brings us to now, the current day. I now continue to upload and operate ComputerMDofGilbert on YouTube, I run this website that offers you valuable resources to take your knowledge on Wix to the next level, I am officially a Wix Certified Trainer, I have a Wix Course available to everyone, and finally I offer my web design services to everyone that is interested in building a Wix website that looks stunning and that will make you stand out online.
I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit more about myself and my story and I would be more than willing to answer any other questions you may have.
If you are interested in speaking to me personally about potential web design work, thoughts on this website or you just want to chat, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Anyone that picks a path of entrepreneurship should understand that it is one of the most challenging professions there are, but with that being said, it is also the most rewarding.
I would be crazy if I said it did not take a few failures and mistakes to get to where I am at today. I mean, heck, I am still constantly learning. I’m only in college, so I still have endless lessons to learn in business.
I have run into many issues, mistakes and failures to get to where I am at today.
Before my current web design business, my family and I liked to think of myself as a serial entrepreneur. I started a ton of businesses to experiment, but never stuck with them. I quickly learned that giving up is no recipe for success, not only in business, but also life.
In addition, on a more technical note, I learned to keep more accurate records. I quickly learned that I must keep detailed reports of my business, because tracking your analytics is vital to the success of your business.
Another obstacle I faced for a long time was my age. Being young, it was tougher to convince people of my knowledge with web design. As I grew older, people began to see the skillset I possess and I was able to begin retaining clients.
An obvious struggle, although not a valid excuse is capital. Obviously, as a young teenager when I first got into business and even somewhat now, having proper funds was difficult. My dad always wanted me to strive to purchase my own necessary goods and equipment, but that ended up being very beneficial to me in the long run. Although, I want to make this a known message, that capital is useful and helpful for growth, but not necessary to start.
Other than that, these are the main struggles I have faced in my entrepreneurial journey thus far.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Wix My Website – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I currently proudly own and operate WixMyWebsite.com and run the YouTube channel, ComputerMDofGilbert. My main goal is to teach people through tutorials, blog posts, consulting, podcasts and an entire community how to use Wix. Wix is an amazing web design platform that makes it easy for people and businesses to create their very own stunning website.
Although, I offer many free resources to my subscribers, my main business is Wix web design. I specialize in helping many like-minded entrepreneurs create stunning websites that accurately reflect their brand. I offer various methods of this, like full build web design, partial build web design, consulting calls, monthly website maintenance and professional website reviews.
I am most well-known for my YouTube tutorials. These YouTube tutorials have a lot of meaning to me, because without these tutorials, I would not have the current audience or client-base that I have today. I started my Wix tutorials over 5 years ago and since then I have only grown from them. In addition, these tutorials have helped me learn more about Wix while teaching it. Now, I have the ability to pass my knowledge on through YouTube and through my expertise in my web design services.
By far, the thing I am most proud of in my business is changing people’s lives. I know a website seems like an oversight each day, however, most times a website can affect how someone’s business performs. I love hearing the excitement of a client after I finish building their website. There is truthfully not a more rewarding feeling than making someone’s day.
The one thing that sets me apart from others in my niche is the fact that I am a young entrepreneur who is currently studying Entrepreneurship in college while serving my amazing clients and caring Wix community on a daily basis.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
As far as the future goes, I plan finish my education here at Lindenwood University and expand my current web design business. I am really looking forward to growing my business and sharing more knowledge with my entire community.
Other than adding more resources and services for my clients, I do not have many big changes in the near future. However, an addition I will be adding as I continue to grow is live workshops. I will put on workshops for people interested in web design in the area. Although I am looking forward to this, it will require some more growth before diving into that addition.
Above all, I am looking forward to changing as many lives as possible one website at a time.
