Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Cirillo.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I am a professional fiddle player/jazz violinist/composer. I won the Arizona State Grand Fiddle Championship and have been a featured soloist with The Phoenix Symphony. I fiddled at Planet Hollywood in Paris, received standing ovations at jazz festivals across America, got hands clapping and feet stomping at country music festivals throughout Europe, worked as a rock violinist on Sunset Strip in Hollywood, enjoyed a brief stint as a strolling violinist on a cruise ship to Ensenada, and played thousands of gigs in my home state of Arizona. In addition to music, my passions include mathematics, computer science, visual arts, and philosophy. I am currently Adjunct Faculty at Grand Canyon University.
Please tell us about your art.
I want people to have fun! I want my music to lift spirits and celebrate how amazing it is to be alive! In challenging times, one is often distracted from how exquisite, improbable, miraculous, and downright bizarre it is to be sentient. I want my art to be fun, accessible, well-crafted, always kind, and a subtle reminder of the joys, mysteries, and possibilities of life.
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national, or international events and issues affect your art?
I am a conceptual explorer. Long ago, I decided to relentlessly seek out and binge on the most enlightening creations that humankind has to offer. I am a hedonist for brilliant music, mathematics, art, science, and philosophy. I am adamantly pointed toward these works and, in my own meager aspirations, stumble in their footsteps.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I perform everywhere! I am based in the amazing city of Tempe, Arizona. During the busy season, I gig several times a week in Arizona and occasionally tour far away.
