Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael and Sarah Cariño.
Michael and Sarah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started working with investors who were flipping homes in 2008. I watched and learned as much as i could. They shut their doors down around 2012 which left me without a job. So I took on side jobs doing small side work with one of the investors who did all they could to keep us busy, small remodels, and lawn care using a borrowed truck that one of the investors lent graciously to us. In 2014, I got on with one of the investors who part-owned that company and started doing the rehab work on his flips up until 2018. At that point we decided we wanted to start our own business Flipping Homes. We have always had the passion for this. So, we sold our home and took what equity we had to pay down our debt & purchase a travel trailer to live in while we saved money. We lived in that travel trailer on my parents lot for 18 months with two kids and a dog while we paid off our debt. We then leaped and started our business. I also got my contractor’s license to take on our own rehabs. With the help of a previous business partner to get started and current business partner, we now currently maintain an inventory of 6-9 houses owned and two to three in rehab at all times. Last year we produced over 20 properties.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not, It has been rather tough. There are constant challenges that we have to jump through. Starting this business, we thought our biggest struggle would be keeping enough properties to stay busy. It has turned out to be keeping up is the issue but we’re blessed to have that problem.

We own Palm Lane Properties and we specialize in buy & flip homes as well as some rentals. In 2021 we will produce 2 new build homes on some lots we own. We are most proud of our growing quality and pride we put into these homes. I think we’re set apart because we’re not just set in our ways, but we listen to what feedback we get, we listen to what we can do to be better and give better quality, & we understand we will always be learning. Portions of our profits are donated and one of the biggest areas that we focus on is Sarah’s volunteering at the Coolidge Hope Womens Center.
