Meet Mel Rhoden

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mel Rhoden.

Mel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Well I moved to Arizona in 2017 after losing what I thought was my dream job. I was pretty devastated, as you can imagine and took a 9 month sabbatical to do some serious soul searching. I guess you could say I hit a mid life crisis. I knew that I was called to do great things with my life, but losing a job, a dream job at that, really made me reevaluate who I was personally and what I was meant to do professionally.

And one of the things that I discovered was that although I have lived a life that others only dreamed of, I was living it for other people. It was time to do what Mel wanted to do, so I went back to school in Tempe at the South West Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA), to become a life coach. I started taking clients on and focused on helping others that were at a point of their lives where they needed to transition careers; not an easy task, so seeking help is always the wisest thing to do.

As I began to take on clients I felt that I needed to incorporate more tools into my practice to better guide them on their spiritual journey as well. So my focus is to guide clients personally, professionally and spiritually. Because life is full of chaos and every needs a spiritual cheerleader in their corner.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road to entrepreneurship is bumpy. No matter how many people may tell you how difficult it is, nothing prepares you for starting and running your own business. I was working full time when I started my business but ended up quitting to focus on it full time. I was missing opportunities and wanted more time to grow the business. But I did not have the clientele yet, so to supplement the lost income, I started driving for a taxi company, and doing Uber/Lyft. I ended up doing the driving more full time, which took away from me building the business, which is why I left my corporate job, to begin with. So at that point, I was right back where I started, and then had to reshift and refocus my efforts on building my business again.

I have also changed directions from career coaching to spiritual life coaching. And I even hate to say life coaching because what I offer is more than that, but people are familiar with titles, so that is the one I go with.

Learning how to pivot (quickly) and make changes along the way are important skills to have in the entrepreneurial world. Building up a network of other entrepreneurs, and like-minded souls has been life saving while on this journey, and saved me from giving it all up on many occasions.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a spiritual entrepreneur. I provide a safe space for people to open up and feel comfortable sharing some of their most intimate and deepest thoughts and concerns. I strive to help them feel hopeful about their futures despite the obstacles and challenges that they may face day-to-day.

We’ve all been in that place in life where we feel stuck and misunderstood, and no matter our efforts to reach out to family and/or friends, we still lack the mental, emotional, and spiritual support needed to take us to the next level of life. My goal is to make my clients feel heard and understood; to be open and honest enough to speak their truth without judgement or criticism, because who wants that.

I am able to use my skills as a spiritual life coach, intuitive guide and natural healer to help my clients approach life with a little more enthusiasm, confidence, resources and tools to lead them to the life they long for; and to help them reignite the fire that’s been quietly burning within.

Several years ago I sent out a survey asking those closests to me when they notice I become more alive; and the overwhelming response was that when I help others identify their hidden gifts, and discover their God-given purpose I am on fire and unstoppable. That is who I am, so this is what I do.

What were you like growing up?
I was that kid that teachers always looked to for leadership, in fact I was the class president of my elementary school. I didn’t want the responsibility, but knew that I had a mission to fulfill. Even then I knew that we were all here to serve a higher purpose; one that fits within the larger scheme of the Universe.

People always wanted to be around me, I was always the calm in everyone’s storm. From a young age I had a passion to help others in need; coupled with my ability to understand people, and interpret their feelings and emotions, I’ve always been sought out to provide wise counsel and to help others see the world in a way that makes sense.

I was that kid who’d spend hours at the library, hungry for more knowledge, and curious about the world. I guess you could say that I am a life-long learner in search of enlightenment. A soul seeker from birth, creating tribes, and touching lives as I travel this great big playground we call life.
