Meet Meghan Alfonso of Girl About Town

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Alfonso.

Meghan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Ever since I was able to drive I was the one out of my friends planning the birthday parties or the dinner outings we would go too. I loved being the one “in charge” and being able to show my friends a good time, where they did not have to worry about a thing. It felt great when everyone had fun and no one had to wait for dinner because we had a reservation or the waiter knew it was so and so’s birthday.

Since then I worked at a variety of nonprofits in the Valley and one PR firm. I loved the event aspect and eventually created my own nonprofit, The Pearce Family Foundation.

The foundation is almost five years old and we are thriving, which has allowed me to create a new business venture. I was constantly being asked how to throw a party or who do I use for flowers or furniture rentals so I thought I should share my knowledge and help others in the Valley. That is how “Girl About Town” was born.

I am 5th generation Phoenician so my husband jokes with me that I know someone everywhere I go- so the name sort of seemed fitting.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been tough being able to balance two companies where I am the boss. Thankfully I have two amazing girls who work with me at Pearce Family Foundation, and who have agreed to help me with Girl About Town. What I have learned is you can’t do things on your own and it is okay to ask for help. I am beginning to see how I can balance everything but it is for sure a struggle for me because I hate to say “no”.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Girl About Town story. Tell us more about the business.
Girl About Town is the new AZ Concierge for the Valley! I want to be your one stop shop for anything someone either visiting or who lives here might need. I am creating “lists”, that someone can purchase and you can have a plethora of contacts who know me and who want to make your event or outing amazing.

There are so many fabulous companies in the Valley who are not on everyone’s radar, which is why I wanted to bridge that gap. My goal is to be the next Yelp! We have a huge vendor contact list that if someone purchases it they will receive my discount if you mention me or my company. I also provide a day of set up, consultations and full on party packages!

I am proud to see how many people in the small business field that want to work with my new business. I believe my attention to detail is what sets us apart and that we really make our client’s dreams come true.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Well, we are moving into a new building off 90th & Bell this year…so that is exciting. I also hope to have a full event team where we can host a variety of events on the same day because we will have more employees. I envision Girl About Town to being your preferred AZ Concierge, that will provide you with all the “cool” places to check out.

I can see us creating some type of sticker or graphic that will be on business windows that we approve and believe you should do business with.

Pricing:

  • $50- The LIST- a 10-page document filled with preferred vendors of local companies to help you throw an amazing party.
  • $150- Social Butterfly (day of set up) Hire a Girl About Town to set up your dinner party or birthday bash as you focus on everything else on your plate.
  • $800- Shin Dig (party for 40 or less) Includes a variety of perks: Services include but are not limited to: Use of Vendor Contact List created by Girl About Town Ordering of certain items (décor/desserts) Securing photographer/videographer for event Theme creation Creation of Invitation from Girl About Town designer Can include up to 4 additional signs for party (within theme) Budget Planning Coordinating of all vendors deliveries or picking up items morning of At least 1 Girl About Town employee at event
  • $1500- Bash (party up to 60 people) Services to work on a one on one basis with client for up to two months prior to event Will communicate every week prior to event and twice on event week Services include but are not limited to: Theme creation Décor design Set Up and take down of event On-site coordinator for all vendors Budget Planning Coordinating of all vendors and any logistics you need help with
  • $3000- Celebration (party of 100+) Services to work more on a one on one basis with client for up to FOUR MONTHS prior to event Will communicate every week prior to event and throughout event week Need to be point of contact day of event at the venue Use of Girl About Town’s preferred vendor list Services include but are not limited to: Theme creation Invite Creation Sponsorship Creation (will not assist with finding sponsors if this is a charity event) Décor design Set up and take down of event On-site coordinator for all vendors Budget planning Coordinating of all vendors and any logistics you need help with Services are not limited to above details
