Meet Marten Tellez of DjKingBee Ent

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marten Tellez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started djing in high school for Friends. I got the nickname Kingbee due to my fascination with Queen Bee “Lil Kim”. Friends would call me this and the name just stuck. From there I kept on listening and enjoying music, supplying friends and family with cds monthly of all the hottest tracks (in my opinion) – which was mostly in case I happened to be around I had them within arm’s reach, or always had something I wanted to listen too. This slowly became a business with friends and Family wanting to pay me for the mixes I was making. This led to me getting my first Mixer and speakers and djing for friends in their backyards. Eventually as I got better and earned more Money I could buy better equipment and do more fancy gigs I.E. weddings and Quincineras and Corporate Job events. My love of Music basically entailed me to turn my hobby into a business and that’s how KingBee ENTertainment was born. I now have business cards, T-Shirts, hats it’s all been expanded from just playing music for friends as a mere Hobby. I do still have my day Job as a Pharmacy Technician, but ultimate dream would be to live merely off my business in DJ earnings.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, Djing is a lost art form, being that with the invention of the iPod/IPhone/Spotify, people are more apt to not spend their money on a dj and do it themselves. This is why you have to be good and have that name recognition out there. If you can rock a party and have everyone having a good time, that equates to word of mouth which is the best promotion out there. It’s still hard to get a Name like Dj Khaled, Dj Self or Funkmaster Flex who have been doing it their whole lives. I look up to these guys.

DjKingBee Ent – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in making everyone have fun via the music. Knowing how to read a crowd and what they want isn’t really something you can teach. It’s something you feel! I’m known for my professionalism and my Love for Hip Hop. I live for new music, I can rock a Club of young Hip Hop goers and also an over fifties wedding, as well as everything in between! That includes Country!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define my success as being happy, Do I like what I do which is a resounding YES. If I had to put a name on my defining success it would be doing this Full time, making a living off a few gigs a week rather than a few a month.

He cancelled by email 15 minutes after he was suppose to be setting up for my daughters graduation party. No phone call, text a email. Who has time to check their email while preparing for a party. My daughter was devastated and felt embarrassed when her friends showed up and the dj had cancelled.
