Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Gruszynski.
Hi Mark, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Boston, MA, to Polish immigrants, which allowed me to travel annually to Europe. My training in Plastic Surgery brought me to UCLA, where my mentors in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills impressed upon me the importance of safe, meticulous plastic surgery to achieve beautifully natural results. This greatly influenced my interests and aesthetic ideals as I pursued my career.
I moved to Scottsdale in the middle of the COVID pandemic. One of the first things that jumped out at me was the prevalence of unnatural results in plastic surgery; exceedingly large breast augmentations, noses made too small, etc. While I certainly don’t judge if someone has different aesthetic goals than I would choose, I am concerned about patient safety. I have extensive conversations with my patients about the impact of their decisions to undergo plastic surgery. I am often shocked when patients come in with severely damaged breasts or difficulty breathing without being counseled appropriately beforehand!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My father suffered from Multiple Sclerosis and later developed head & neck squamous cell cancer, from which he passed, shortly after which my mother developed breast cancer requiring surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation (now she is doing great!). I struggled with balancing family health issues with my intensive training in Plastic Surgery. When I went to medical school, they moved to Amsterdam, Holland, which meant I only saw them once a year while they were struggling through these issues. While this was challenging, I think it made me empathic to my patients’ concerns. I think of many of my patients like family and have developed long-term relationships far beyond the typical “post-operative period.”
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Our practice delivers concierge-level care in Plastic Surgery, emphasizing beautiful, natural results. Starting my practice was the only way to provide the standard of care I expect for my patients, namely, the same caliber that I was trained to deliver in Beverly Hills. We don’t use an answering service after hours; our patients always reach a member of my team or me directly. Patients are offered a private waiting room if they desire additional discretion, experience their visits on time, and have access to a full suite of supplemental aesthetic care, including an esthetician, three medical-grade skin care lines, laser skin care, and injectables such as Botox and filler.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
Assemble a great team of people who share your vision for a practice/business. Trust the process! Deliver compassionate care to your patients, practice safely, and everything will take care of itself.
