Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark DeSimone.
Mark, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I owned a motorcycle business in Chicago with my brothers in the 90’s, moved to Arizona in 2000 and worked for a shop that went bankrupt in 2004. I had a job offer with another shop but decided to open my own shop here in Tempe a month after the other shop closed. We have expanded 3 times since we opened and are increasingly getting busier every year. We cater to most on road motorcycles and trikes, we build trikes here, and service many Honda Goldwings, Harley Davidsons, Suzuki and Yamaha motorcycles. We also do stereo upgrades, helmet to helmet Bluetooth communication systems with phone integrations. We have built our business on trust, fair prices and doing what we say we are going to do in the time we say, and word of mouth. We expanded our motorcycle sales business in the last couple of years, we now sell about 100 motorcycles a year and build and install about 20-25 trike conversions a year. We have a great outlook for the future!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We have had a pretty smooth road, expanding the business with more employees and square footage is always scary. We are trying to stay with the trends in the motorcycle industry.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the D&D Discount Motorcycles story. Tell us more about the business.
We specialize in big touring motorcycles, trikes, cruiser motorcycles, and sport bikes. We are also known for building high quality trikes, I have built more than 500 trikes since 2000, we have other large dealerships referring there builds to us. What sets us apart is that we have fair prices, we work by a schedule, we have waiting appointments for tire changes and service work and you talk to the person that is working on your motorcycle not just the service writer. People call our shop Floyds barber shop from the Andy Griffith show, we have coffee every morning and donuts on Wednesdays.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Good luck when we first opened, we fell into a bunch of used equipment to open our shop by just pure luck, everything else has been done by hard work!
