Today we’d like to introduce you to Lenea Sadler.
Lenea, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Entering college, I attended N.A.U. and majored in music with a dream of becoming a contemporary singer/composer. After years of study, I realized music is definitely a part of my soul but should not be my work. But I still needed a creative outlet. That’s when makeup and skin care moved from being a fun hobby to my career. I really became serious about makeup right after my wedding. I have beautiful wedding photos, but my makeup, although done ‘professionally’ at a counter, was not suitable to my features. That’s when I learned the importance of professional makeup in wedding photos. I knew then I had to do something. I need to save bride’s lives by doing their makeup!
After graduating from makeup school, I realized I was making a difference in women’s lives, especially the bridal clients. My dream became my passion. Women were seeing the best version of themselves and realizing their inner beauty was being drawn out. Women are especially critical of their physical selves and once they see their natural beauty accentuated, and they have that ‘Wow! I’m beautiful!’ the moment, I know I have done my job.
Later, I recognized there is more to making women feel beautiful than just makeup. I saw skin and facial hair issues that needed to be addressed by a trusted professional. If I could make them feel awesome using makeup, I started to imagine what could happen if I was able to treat the underlying canvas. Those imaginings became reality after graduation from Esthetics school. I fell in love with skin! And now, I can treat anyone’s skin and help them have that special ‘moment’ without makeup…and THAT is a beautiful thing!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think every person’s journey has its ups and downs. The downs don’t define us, but they reveal one’s true character; whether they are fight or flight. I am fighting! The ups are what you remember when the down times come. I have been extremely fortunate to have a generally smooth road. Growing up, my parents taught me that it is always right to do right and always wrong to do wrong. I’ve stuck to that my whole life and truly believe it has played an integral part in my success as a business owner.
After going through all the schools and training, I knew that I had to be my own boss and have my own business. Getting all the paperwork started and making sure I was following all the rules and regulations was probably the most difficult and stressful part of starting my own business. For an Aesthetician, there isn’t a how-to guide to starting a business with step-by-step instructions. You really have to research and depend on peers for answers and guidance.
Finding a good bookkeeping program that categorizes all my income, expenses, and taxes has literally saved my life! I do everything myself – appointment setting, budget, bookkeeping, taxes, family, laundry, dinner, and this program is everything to keep me sane!
I have been running my own business officially for one year now, and it was the best decision I ever made for my career.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lenea Sadler Makeup & Skin Care – what should we know?

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My husband has been the most incredible support and believer in my dream. He has gone so far to assist me doing makeup for weddings! Every time I need a picture hung or a shelf put up, he is right there with his screw gun asking me where I want it. He washes the dishes, takes out the trash, and puts the boys to bed when I am working late with my client. He is my everything and the most incredible partner. I couldn’t do anything without him!
Mom and Dad are always a phone call away when I need advice and wisdom. They too have had businesses of their own and anytime I have to make a big decision, they are always there. Mom still fixes my clothes and I give her eyelash extensions as payment. You can’t beat that trade!
My aesthetics teacher and mentor, Ms. Laurie Sutton. She passed away one year after I graduated, and it was one of the saddest days of my life. She always told me to run towards my dreams because they were attainable with hard work. She pushed me to do better even when I thought I was doing my best. She taught that there was no limit on how much you could improve or how good you could make a client feel. She had her students write dream/goal lists in school. I still have it in my refrigerator. I wish she could see me and the list today. Almost every single goal has been checked off.
My boys are huge cheerleaders! Every day, they ask me, “How’d your clients go? What kind of services did you do today? Did you have fun?” Or when we pray before meals they thank God that He brought the clients and business to me so we can have dinner on the table. How sweet is that?! I want to show them that with hard work, they can do anything they set their minds to, or have any career they want.
My best friend, Ciara. We have been friends since 2000. We parted ways for a while after high school graduation, but it was destiny when I walked into the first day of Aesthetics school and saw her there. We have been inseparable ever since. Even though we practice in the same industry, our niche is completely different. It is so amazing to have my best friend know exactly what goes on in the industry with me. We constantly bounce ideas off each other and are always there when the other needs anything. Her support is unwavering and I am so fortunate to be blessed with friendship!
