Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Valenzuela.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Sigfus jewelry has been a passion and a dream of mine for a long time. I always knew one day I would launch a business using my own artistic expression, I just had to find the right medium that I loved working with. Once I found polymer clay, it was the beginning of a new addiction with endless possibilities.
Sigfus jewelry Is made in my private studio in sunny Tucson, Arizona. I am a Tucson native and a child of the desert! I live with my husband of 10 years and our two dogs Ragnar and Bela Lugosi. The name Sigfus is very dear to me as it is my great grandfather’s first name and my father’s middle name. I am very proud of my Icelandic background and wanted to choose a “strong nordic name” to represent my company and pay homage to my heritage.
Please tell us about your art.
I make polymer clay jewelry. I hope more than anything that my jewelry will adorn those who buy it and make them feel extra beautiful. Jewelry has a special way of highlighting the beauty that is already there, and the best part is- jewelry always fits! I hope that people find a piece that represents their style and that you can make a #MySigfúsStatment. A Sigfus Statement is everything from the clothes you wear to the statements people make every day in their life. I want to highlight the positive statements women are making every day.
Sigfus is a woman-owned and operated company even down to the photographers and production assistants, that is except when I’m dragging my husband to help at jewelry shows!
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
I think artists can speak to the change which can often times be negative, by bringing light and positivity. I don’t think our roles have changed over the years because humanity is in so many ways still much the same. We all struggle and we all have the potential for evil or for good, we get the choice. I think art can give a voice and help people relate and find connection.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
