Today we’d like to introduce you to Latonya Brooks.
Latonya, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started off working for Wells Fargo home mortgage at the ripe age of twenty. I was in charge of liquidation during the recession. It was my job to deliver bad news and tell people the sheriff is coming. I can remember a time when a mom called in telling me how her husband picked up and left her and the kids. All she had left was her house and we were taking it from her. My supervisor never wanted to talk to customers and always told me to de-escalate the call.
Most of the time we would help out people who didn’t necessarily need the help and throw out the people who really needed the assistance. Working at Wells Fargo was too stressful! My mom owned a massage spa so I ended up going to school for massage therapy. It made me feel good to be able to relieve people’s stress and I grew passionate about massage. Soon after, my mom passed down her spa to my sister and me. Craving a fresh start, I moved to Phoenix to restart my life!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road to success is never a paved pothole free road! I wanted a better life than Milwaukee, WI could give me, so I picked up and moved with two young children and one on the way. With my partner being incarcerated and on the bills on my shoulders, things were rough, to say the least. I was at a standstill – everything I knew was back home. I had no established business, no family in Arizona, and no help with my kids.
I remember when I first moved down, I would set up my massage table in my pantry and take clients while my children were at daycare. For the next 2 years, I struggled as a traveling therapist. Not to mention I was pregnant and never felt like getting up but the bills weren’t going to pay themselves. Once my partner came home, we decided to open a spa. It took me three years after moving down to Arizona to open Le’Seqeuence Spa. I would say time, dedication, and patience were my biggest strong suits during this journey.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Le’Sequence Spa – what should we know?
I am a masseuse who channels energy. I read body language and adjust your massage according to the responses I receive from your body. You will never receive a traditional massage from me. Each and every massage I give is a personalized experience; all worries fade away while you’re in my suite. I specialize in freestyling; you may come in for a Full Body, Sports, or French Massage. None of these massages will be the same from client to client because every client is unique.
Tuning into the body and listening deeply is my biggest strength. I use a holistic approach, brought to me by our in-house chemist who provides handmade holistic healing products, to incorporate the mind, body, and soul! I provide total relaxation to my clients and come highly recommended – “Strong Hands, Soft Touch”. Our website Le’SequenceSpa.com allows you to complete a compatibility test to match you up with the correct therapist for your specific issues. There is also a customization form you can submit on the website, where we ask difficult questions in order to determine the proper techniques to use and where your problem areas are.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My biggest supports are my partner, my family, my assistant, and my clients. My partner for reminding me whenever the world get’s tough, giving up is not an option. He has been supportive since day 1 and it doesn’t go unnoticed. My family for always being there when I need them. Our Marketing Director Julie Shaw for helping me create my brand, design my website, and continue to growth Le’Sequence. Last but not least, I’d like to give a special acknowledgment to my clients who inspire me every day with their warm feedback. Without hearing those comments, I would not be as successful as I am today!
